Opacity of 3D objects

oliver.williams

Question

Hello,

Why is it not possible to change the opacity of a 3D object in VW. On a 2D shape you have an opacity slider in the attributes - fill tab. However for 3D objects this slider is greyed out. It seems like this is a bit of a pitfall as it would be very useful to change the opacity of a 3D object. I know you can apply gl;ass texture but this seems like a workaround and doesnt achieve the required effect.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I guess it depends a bit on how much you use classes. I am moderately strict about classing objects; this means that I don't very often change attributes directly in the attributes palette. So I rarely use the slider there. Once you have classes set up it's very quick to change object attributes just by class assignment.

Hi,

In one of my recent projects, I have an opacity setup with the combination of record entries and data visualization.

In the record save a pop-up list with  the following entries: -, 25%, 50%, ...

Create different textures with the same amount of transparency, like you have in the pop-up list.

Create a Datavisualization and overwrite the texture with it.

This solution works relatively well. It is the most versatile solution that I have tested myself.
