taoist
Need to show studs only for interior and dimensioning on plans as framers build accordingly. In other words, show in 2D (Design Layers/Sheet Layers) Stylized walls not showing GWB or any interior finish. Still want to show GWB (interior finish) in 3D views. How does one go about this? I have tried, but no result as desired. Anyone with suggestions, or how to's, greatly appreciated. Quote Link to comment
0 bcd
Have you taken a look @ AEC>Framing>Wall Framer. I think it was available already in VW2013 This basically creates a 3d framing model from your walls that you can turn on/off in relevant Viewports. 1 Quote Link to comment

You can then turn off the components you don’t want to see, leaving the framing and container class on. If you want to show the studs, @bcd’d idea works or you are going to have a lot of graphic embellishments to do. 1 Quote Link to comment
0 Tom W.
If like Jeff says it's just a case of showing something indicative in plan - i.e. 'this wall component is timber framing' - then you could try using a Tile Fill: Quick + easy once set up but no control over stud locations so corners/junctions can look bad. 3 Quote Link to comment
0 taoist
Thanks to all for the responses. Will use your suggestions. I apologize for not being clearer. Need to show plate only for interior walls in Top/Plan view. Show all in 3D Exterior walls, inner plate edge and OSB in Top/Plan view. All wall components in 3D view. Used GWB class that is no part of the Wall class. Works great. 1 Quote Link to comment
0 JackBuilt
Carpenters can't measure to drywall since it is not there when framing is occurring. Turn off the class for the drywall. I've also just snapped dimensions to the plates and made the notes clear that drywall is not accounted for in the dimensions. Edited September 23, 2023 by Inspectorjack 1 Quote Link to comment
0 taoist
Just tried assigning class to GWB that is not in wall definition. If I turn off the GWB it shows only plate as one expects. However, it also turns off the 3D of the GWB. Back to the drawing board. Quote Link to comment
0 JackBuilt
My permit plans and framers plans are generally now created from a viewport on a sheet layer derived from the model. Can set class view options for the viewport that excludes showing the GWB while leaving the class visible in the model. Quote Link to comment
0 taoist
I got it working! I assigned Object Textures not Component Textures. Quote Link to comment
