Stu Wilson
Hi All, Does anyone know the best file type to import a survey that produces the best 3d model of a site survey? Thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment
Jeff Prince
Point file in .txt or .csv basically, it’s a list of points collected by the surveyor, it’s the rawest data. At a minimum, it consists of point #, X, Y, Z. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
Or point file as .dwg that imports as 3D Loci...? Or @jeff prince are you saying you prefer .txt/.csv as then a layer of processing on surveyor's part has been cut out + therefore some potential room for error eliminated? I have used both formats but .txt resulted in a ton of processing on my part but perhaps under other circumstances I could have insisted the surveyor present the data in the format of my choice... 1 Quote Link to comment

Processing contours takes forever in comparison. 1 Quote Link to comment

I just import the .dwg + there are a load of 3D Loci in the right x/y/z locations then select all + make site model. 1 Quote Link to comment

Try it sometime compared to importing a .dwg with points in it and you'll see. The added benefit to a delaminated file is you can open it in a spreadsheet or text editor to check the data for problems, edit, or reformat it. Stu asked for the "best file type", that's what I provided. 1 Quote Link to comment

And/or the survey points in .txt/.csv format? They have given you a 2D only file. They should have the 3D data but probably assumed you were working in 2D only. As a last resort there is a script here on Forum somewhere which will convert text objects to 3D loci. Quote Link to comment
E|FA
There's another thread somewhere with more detailed info on this option, but I can't find it. 1 Quote Link to comment
