Push-pull behaviour has changed between VW2021 and VW2023. Is this intentional?

line-weight

Question

The video below shows me attempting the same operation in VW2021 and then 2023.

Using the "extrude face" mode of the push pull tool in 2021 simply gives me a larger cuboid.

In 2023 it gives me the same shape - but with each of the extended faces somehow split into two coplanar faces. This then has consequences for further editing - as demonstrated.

Is this an intentional change in the way it works? Am I now supposed to use the "move face" mode instead, when I don't want this result?

(It's possible this change happened between VW2021 and 2022 - I skipped VW2022 altogether.)

Not sure if I understood the question.

But there was always a difference between left mode and middle mode.

Left Mode, I never use, as it gave a Solid Addition/Subtraction history overhead,

while middle Mode just moved the Face and/or converted to a generic Solid

in some cases. (My preferred mode)

Unfortunately the middle mode was not able to push/pull all situations as the

more versatile left mode could do.

Yes the behaviour shown in the video would be correct for the Extrude Face mode of the tool if the shape wasn't a true cube i.e. if the faces were very slightly angled. But I have assumed it is a cube, in which case the operation shouldn't be resulting in the extruded section of the solid becoming a separately-selectable entity for future Push/Pull operations...
