  1. If it is just one file, then just open the mcd file from 2008 it will automatically convert.
  2. It's a problem with that font family. I don't know why, but the problem is not limited to the label legend. The font will have problems if you just enter text in the document. I've had problems with the entire "Blueprint" family. If you look at the sample text for the font, it will be different then the standard sample text used by most other fonts. I don't know if the problem is isolated to one font creator or just a general problem with this font family. Only thing to try is setting your default font to either CountryBlueprint or a standard font like Ariel. Do this on a copy of the document, I found that switching existing text between "Blueprint" and standard fonts will create garbage text. You can restore the text by switching back to the original font.
  3. Make sure the location you picked for the output file is writable. It looks like the error happens when quicktime can not open the file for writing. Also try the file name with and without the .mov file extension. You should get a different message if it's a compatibility problem.
  4. It works great. If you want to try a test you can download vision demo and give it a try. With the demo you have full control over the demo scene and the ability to control Universe 1, Channels 1-100 of any scene you create.
  5. "Using the Visualization palette" You don't select instruments on the document, just the lights in the Visualization palette then right click and select edit.
  6. Using the Visualization palette, select mutiple lights then right click and select edit. You can adjust the properties, including lit fog, for the selected instruments from here.
  7. Set your class option to Show/Snap(/Modify) others. The geometry inside of the is in a calss that you can't snap to. Kevin
  8. Currently it is not possible to format database worksheets in the manner that would duplicate the reports created by Generate Paperwork. The database worksheets that are similiar to the paperwork are available in Libraries\Defaults\Reports~Schedules\Spotlight Schedules.vwx
  9. As far as I know this should only happen on the educational versions. If you have a professional license please contact technical support directly.
  10. Spotlight does not use text linked to records. There are no records associated with the labels. Spotlight uses a different method to track the labels. If you are atatching records to the labels they will be deleted when the label legend manager runs because the label legend manager doesn't need them and only perserves the information it needs. There is always a complete set of 8 labels generated, some with no text. The ones with no text are unused labels. If you are seeing this problem while running SP2 (Build 83388) please contact tech support directly.
  11. Make sure you are using SP2 (Build 83388). Spotlight does not use text linked to record, so I don't know where that information is comming from.
  12. The lighting position use symbols for the geometry. If you look in the resource browser you can edit the symbol and adjust any attributes you would like.
  13. Are you watching the 2008 tutorial cd? Spotlight's use of this folder was a feature that was added for 2008.
  14. Was this file transalted from V12? There were some transaltion problems in the original release of 2008 that may have caused this problem. Your best option is to recreate the LL or reopen the V12 file with the current version of 2008.
  15. Eire, Give tech support a call if you have not already. Your network is may be sutting down because of some firewall settings in network. Vectorworks uses the network connection. The network may be seeing this communication as an attack and shutting down the connection. Especially with the "40 minutes" delay before reconnection, it sounds like something in the network firewall is causing the problem.
  16. The key to instrumentation does not automatically update. You must run the command again to update the key.
  17. The information for a multi-circuit symbol is obtained from each cell's symbol def. So if the information on each cell's symbol def is correct it should work. You can send a sample file to tech@nemetschek.net and we will have a look at it.
  18. The Photometer just uses the field and beam angles, peak candela, and focus point from the data attached to the fixture. It has nothing to do with the rendered light. You can also put a brick wall between the light and the focus point and it would make no difference in the results. It's just a symbp;l calculation based on the distance from each light.
  19. This has been posted many times before. The photometric grid does not use the ies files or take into account any gemetry or surfaces in the drawing. The photometric grid calculates a simple cosine fall-off based on the beam/field angle of the lighting device.
  20. This is not a problem with 2008. The light, and the wireframe beam, will have start from focal point of the light. The focal point of the light is determined by a 3D locus within the symbol. If the 3D locus does not exist the light will start from the insertion point of the instrument, usially the c-clamp.
  21. You need to update the light info record atatched to the symbol def. Edit the symbol and de-select everything. In the Data tab of the OIP enter the new data into the light info record. When you insert a new symbol it will pick up the new information.
  22. Right click on the light and select Edit Light... You can adjust the intensity form there.
  23. I'd send an email to StudentServices@VectorWorks.net You'll get a faster response if you contact them directly.
  24. I've had all kinds of graphic and slowness problems running VW under parallels. As far as I can tell parallels still adds a lot of overhead and doesn't really have direct access to the video card. Bootcamp on the other hand is fantastic. There are several applications that will not run under parallels that work just great under bootcamp. After a few similar experiences I won't run VW under parallels, but have no problem with it running natively on Mac, Windows, or under bootcamp on the Mac. This has all been with 2008, but my guess is that 12 would be the same.
  25. If you have 2008 just select the instrument, check the box "Set 3D Orientation" and then set the Y rotation to 180. This will rotate the instrument to be top hung. (It will still be on the bottom of the truss.) You can simply adjust the Z height of the instrument to move it to the to chord of the truss.
