  1. I am working with a designer who has a copy of 2008 and 12.5. He can install either one on his computer, but cannot OPEN either one. When he tries to run either one it says that the program unexpectedly quit. Any thoughts? He has a HP Windows Vista, 64 bit, 3GB of RAM Thanks.
  2. Michael, Viewports would be great to use, of course. However, because truss layout can be so close, and the way we lay out the breakout symbols for our electricians does not work well with viewports - everything is smashed together and not easily legible. I think it might be a corruption in the file as we've done this class isolation in the past.
  3. I'm working on a file using truss and lights. I have created classes for each set of box truss so that I can easily create cardboards for the crew to work off of. However, with this particular file sent from the designer, when I put a set of box truss and lights into a class and then view only that active class, nothing is on the screen. All the truss disappears. Any ideas?
  4. Could you post the example in this thread - I would like to see what you are talking about as well. Also is this for VW 2008 or earlier versions? Having info about your version and computer in your signature line would be greatly helpful.
  5. I am working with someone who has a laser cutter that uses vector points to cut from one point to the next. I've scanned in some pictures and "Trace Bitmap" those images to get lines and vector points. As a courtesy it would be much better for me to get these vector points to show up and send that off than to have this other person take the time to do it. Is there a way to "show" these vector points on a printout or as a pdf/gif?
  6. Thank you for the suggestion Ion. As a user of Vectorworks for over 4 years now or a user of a computer for 20 years - I do know how to open a file. However, the file extension is not recognizable in my version of VW - so I was asking Matt if he had any other visual way to show me what he is trying to do.
  7. Can't open your file. JPG, PDF versions???
  8. I created an earlier thread about SketchUp imports into a VW file a while back. Just trying to nudge some elbows to see if anyone has discovered something since then or anyone new to the board can offer up ideas: I'm trying to import a SketchUp file (.skp) or export (.kmz) into a VW file. As suggested before from the earlier thread, I selected to open VW in Rosetta. However, when I go to File>Import>Import Sketchup, I still get no window to tell me what to do next. Just the same view on my screen as before I even selected File. When VW is not opened in Rosetta, it tells me to open VW using Rosetta. Any ideas as to what is going on with my version of VW? I've tried to import from a blank document as well - same results.
  9. I agree with gmm18 about the larger screen size being an added plus with the 17" MacBook. However, that bit of larger size makes it a pain to carry around - so if you are looking for something easily portable (especially if you travel on a plane much) then go with the 15" MacBook. You still have options to max everything out when you order one. Personally, I would go for the desktop. The Mac Pro's have so much power and flexibility with how much you want to put into the machine. And with it's two DVI outputs, you can hook up dual 17"+ flatscreens that will really make navigating VW, drawings, and multiple windows much much easier. But either way you choose - Mac's are great investments if you choose to use VW as your drafting program.
  10. Thanks Michael - great stuff.
  11. Hebrew is naturally written and read from right to left and not left to right (which we are accustomed to in English). Perhaps since you are entering Hebrew text, the callout is assuming you are reading from right to left and showing that????? Just a thought...
  12. Michael, I've downloaded the symbols. How do I get them into a readable file in the resource browser?
  13. Ok. So for anyone who has been following this thread (also posted in Spotlight area). I found a very simple and obvious solution to the problem.... just use viewports. It actually makes it easier to just switch to the viewport instead of telling each layer you want what to do and then render. I created a viewport labeled "render" and put the light, positions, and theatre (all 3D) into that viewport. Selected "update all viewports", the viewport rendered, and the light was visible on the stage. You can also link the layers you want to view. But that locks the layers and doesn't allow for changes. So viewports look to be the best option to view rendered light coming from a different source layer.

  15. Agree with Bill on that. For every show I do in the same theater - the set and line schedule changes. I get a VW document from the TD with all the new info. Would be nice if I could just import all that info into my rep plot VW document instead of having to take time to copy and paste (not to mention making sure it all lines up with plaster line, etc.)
