  1. I am trying to make some custom stairs that have a single structural steel spline for support. The stairs in plan view have straight, and curved sections. I assume that the "Extrude along Path" tool is what I need to use to form this steel spline. The question is, how do I form the path? I need to form sloping curves and sloping straight lines and connect them to form a path. Thank you in advance for any help.

Yes, you can move the paper. Hold down the pan key, (buton with hand), and you should see another key showing a rectangle with arrows. This tool will move the paper.
  3. It is a good idea to keep a backup copy off-site as well. Fire, flood, or theft can destroy your files no matter how many copies on site you have.
  4. Try restarting the computer. This should fix the problem.
  5. My local blueprinter receives my VW files by Adobe Acrobat, PDF. I print to PDF from VW and then email the file to them. It works fine. I would assume that Kinkos or any other repro house should be able to print a PDF. This is all done on a Mac.
  6. Thank you. I have never used that tool. I just tried it out and it works great in 2d. Would you or anyone know how to do the same in 3d?
  7. Is there a way to do a duplicate array on a sloping curve? If I wanted to place an object at a repeating given distance along the wire of a spring is this possible. This would also be the way to make a curved stair with each tread arrayed in a curve but each tread higher than the next. Any ideas? [ 11-11-2003, 08:00 PM: Message edited by: Kevin ]
  8. Just draw a rectangular polygon the size of your brick and use duplicate array. Make it solid and bring it to the front over your field of running bond brick.
  9. In concept this works, but it is still not a french door pair. It is a solid door with sidelight. In plan view it is inconsistent and in 3d view it is obvious. This would not work for a 3d model. For the french door PIO we need separate opening angle control for each door to allow one door open and one closed. For the sidelight PIO we need muntin control for the sidelight. There is currently no way to provide muntins in these windows.
  10. Robert; Am I missing something here? The french door PIO does not produce a door as was requested in this thread. It will produce two doors with one closed, however the hinge is at the astragal. This is not a typical bi-parting french door where each hinge is at the jamb. Is there more than one french door PIO in VW9.5?
  11. Robert; I do not see this as a solution to the problem. The french door V2 plugin set to "Swing Bi-part Single", puts the hinge on the astragal and not the jamb. The OIP needs a "Flip" button to allow the hinge to move to the jamb. This would then provide what is being asked.
  12. Take a look at the Printing/Plotting section. There are some posts regarding your plotter there.
  13. VW Architect has duct tools. On the OIP there is a check box for "Show 3d". The tools will draw 3d elbows, tees, etc.
  14. I have a desktop Mac and a Powerbook. When I want to work on a VW file on the road I copy the file from the desktop to the Powerbook. Problem is I sometimes forget to copy it back to the desktop unit and find myself working on an old file on the desktop. What is the proper way to handle this. Is it a server? I know nothing about servers so any help and advice would be appreciated.
  15. Hi Robert; Do you know if the Font Book features of OS10.3, Panther are compatible with VW? Specifically I want to know if I will be able to limit the number of fonts available in VW so that instead of scrolling down a list of 100 fonts I can limit it to perhaps 3 to 5.
  16. This problem happened again this morning. A worksheet is gone. Not only is it gone from my current drawing, but it is gone from my backup copies. This violates the very concept of security of backups.
  17. I had a couple of worksheets disappear under VW9.5. I don't know how or when. One day they just were not there anymore. I too would like to know why.
  18. Why do you not update your system software to OS9.2? I don't know if this is the answer, but it seems like a good place to start.
  19. I would be interested in knowing how Panther's "Font Book" interacts with VW. Does anyone know if this will allow us to limit the number of fonts available in VW. My list of fonts is over one hundred but I only use 3 in VW. It would be wonderful to select Text>Font in VW and have a list of only the 3 fonts that I use in that program. Can anyone at NNA comment?
  20. I run into the same issue. I dimension the Mod-Floor Plan. Then I layer link this plan to my site plan. I need to dimension the site plan but I don't want the dimensions of the Mod-Floor Plan to show. I only want a few dimensions on the site plan showing distance of building to property lines. This forces me to have the dimensions of the Mod plan as Dimension-1 and the dimensions on the Site plan as Dimension-2. Is this the way it is supposed to work or is there a better way?
  21. Hi Katie; Thanks for your help. What I did not notice is that the Units dialog box has a pull-down menu that defaults to General Display. I now realize that there is a pull-down for dimensions. I was setting the precision for the General Display and not for dimensions. Problem solved thank you. Now I have a few more questions: 1.What is "Tolerance"? My question had to do with "Precision", but now I see a pull-down in the OIP that says "Tol". What is that? It appears that "Precision" has to to with rounding. So what is Tolerance? 2. When I set units for General Display, what is that? Is this what controls the Data Display Bar? 3. What is the difference between Dimension Objects Primary and Dimension Objects Secondary?
  22. When I draw a dimension it defaults to 1/4" tolerance. I go to Menu>Page>Units and set the rounding to 1/8" but the dimensions still default to 1/4". How can I set the default so the tolerance is what I specify?
  23. I just got a call from the contractor that my dimensions don't work. I go back to my drawing and he is right. The radial dimension tool gave me a dimension of 9'-2.5". When I measure it the true dimension is 9"-0". When I delete the wrong dimension and re-dimesion again with the radial dimension tool, it now reads correctly as 9'-0". This is a serious problem. i do not know if it dimensioned incorrectly on creation or if it changed at some point. Now I am afraid of what else might not be dimensioned correctly. Is this a bug? Has anyone else experienced this? [ 10-06-2003, 07:10 PM: Message edited by: Kevin ]
  24. Go to Vectordepot. There is a plug-in that will provide a date and file name everytime you print. The date will change each time you print to reflect the date at the time of printing.
