  1. I am experimenting with a new class setup for me. I am listing my classes by the sheet that they are on. My attempt is to shorten the intial list of classes. For example: 04 Floor-Wall-Int, 07 Section-Shade, 05 Roof-Outline. These may not make sense to others, but so far it seems to be working for me. I tried to conform to VW or AIA standards, but they simply did not make sense to me. So I thought I would name them myself. This may not make sense in a multi-person office environment. As far as importing documents, there is a plug-in that will reclass your imported classes with a prefix. I do not remember where it can be found. If I import a survey, I can simply use this plug-in to give all "150" classes the prefix of Survey-. That way they only take up one line on my class list. I wish I could remember where I found the plug-in.

Charles I think that many have lost sight of this. NNA has been asked by us for years to deliver this feature. At some point they had to make a decison to release, to us, their work in progress. From the demo movie, it would appear that they have gone beyond simply releasing something that they could market as live sectioning. It has some nice features that leave me wondering, how did they do this. I think we should remember that this is Version 1.0 of Live Sectioning. I am sure that there will be improvements over time. For me, for now, I am happy that the day has come that NNA has delivered on my wish. I am sure that it took a lot of hard work by the software engineers to make this work. Thank you Biplab and your team.
  3. I have the 455CA. It works fine on the Mac using GimpPrint. I tell you this to give you hope. However, I have no idea of how the Windows side works.
  4. The live section movie was very helpful. A similar movie for stairs would be great.
  5. Thanks Sean for the movie. Great demo and great features.
  6. Katie and KQ; Thank you. That would be a wonderful idea.
  7. I feel sorry for the fellow who is looking for information on live sectioning in VW12. He will do a search and find this thread. Chris, may I suggest that you start a new Topic. I cannot understand what you are saying in this one. Perhaps the name of your new Topic will help me to understand what you are trying to say. What I do know is that it has nothing to do with live sectioning.
  8. I have 2.5 GB of ram in my G5. Yesterday I found that I had only about 20 mb of free memory. I had VW, Photoshop and a few other programs open. For me, I do not like to close programs to simply save on free memory. For that reason, it makes sense to have the ability to install more memory. Remember that Renderworks can use both processors of a G5. Now having said all of that, I certainly do like the idea of an iMac. I just don't think it is setup for the demands of a professional CAD user.

Perhaps the question of VW improvements should be posted to the autoCAD die hards... Actually, everyone on this site starts with zero postings. We were all "newbies" at one time. New members join all the time to ask questions. My hope is that they are made to feel welcome when they do. What impressed me about this board is that nearly everyone is willing to help one another. That also includes the NNA people who are not officially bound to participate. For me it is like one big happy family. What I just cannot figure out is why so many of your postings, Michael, are so negative. So frequently you are unhappy. It seems that you can always find something negative to say. I tried to poke a little fun at you earlier. You remind me of the Israelites. They were freed from a life of slavery, yet they still found cause to complain. I like VW, I like the people on this board, and I like the people at NNA of whom I have had contact with. For this reason I continue to use VW. It seems to me that you should try a different software program, (you mention AutoCad). Perhaps then you would be happy. I would like to see you happy.

  11. Thank you, it worked. I don't know how, but I duplicated the structure of a sample script shown in the Manual, and used your script. One day perhaps I will figure out how all of this Vectorscript works. I really admire you guys who know how to do this.
  12. I often rotate objects 45 degrees. What I need is a script that will rotate 45 degrees so that I can assign that to a keyboard shortcut. Does anyone know how to write such a script? I am sure it is a simple one.
  13. I too am intrigued. Does this mean that I can use Overlay Transfer Mode to create transparent overlays that will print to real paper?

A bit annoying having to upgrade already. I have heard this before: Numbers 21:4-6 (New International Version) They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the desert? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!" Then the LORD sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. Let this be a lesson. Buy and enjoy VW12, or NNA will send venomous snakes to bite you!
  15. Is this long awaited day finally here? Are these really the live sections that we have long asked for? Robert, Katie, anyone, please elaborate!!!
  16. Under OS10.4.2, the Designjet 600 is not listed when I try to set up a new printer. The Deskjet is. I use a Designjet 455CA which works fine. If it were me, I would put my money into a different printer, either new or used. If the 600 needs parts, you might be hard pressed to find them.

  18. Often times, paper feed problems are nothing more than dirty feed rollers. They can usually be cleaned with adhesive paper or with alcohol.

So I shift select to link the three layers I'm trying to fly over all at once. What do I make active next for it to work... You will be doing your rendering and flyovers on the Model Layer and only the Model Layer. Upon creation, the Model Layer will be blank, just as all layers are upon creation. When you link a layer, you are doing just that, linking. The layer link dialog box will not show the Model Layer because you are linking other layers to it. The dialog is to select the layers that you want to "bring in", the layers that you are linking to the Model Layer. Simply select the layers that you want to show up, such as Site, First Floor, Second Floor, Roof. They will now appear in your Model Layer. If you make changes to any of the linked layers, those changes will show up in the Model Layer.
  20. Create a new layer. I call this the Model layer. Layer link all of the other layers to this layer. Do not check the 2d check box. Now you can navigate your model in this single layer. Because you did not check the 2d checkbox, none of your non-3d elements show.
  21. I am glad that it worked. Welcome to the discussion board.
  22. It is always a good idea to tell us what your setup is. Are you on Windows or Mac. What plotter? You should not have to type in any custom sizes. Under page setup choose your page size and orientation. If it does not show up, then you need to install the proper printer descriptions. Under VW, go to Page>Set Print Area. It should show One Page and the diagram should occupy one box. If not, drag the box to the right and back so that the highlight is just the upper left box. The proper page size less margins should display. A D size sheet may only show as 22.xx by 34.xx and not as 24 x 36.
  23. Two common causes are: 1. Two walls in one location. 2. Door or window not being inserted into wall. When you select the door or window, check the OIP. It should read door, or window, in wall. If it does not say in wall then it has not inserted.
