  3. I am thinking of buying a refurbed iMac Pro 8-Core 3.2GHz Xeon W (Late 2017) Space Grey with AMD Radeon Pro Vega 56 to tide me over until new M1X comes out to replace my MacBook Pro 2016. Please Does anyone else have experience of using Vectorworks and or Twinmotion on this machine, and how does it perform ?
  4. This is a complex debate, and there is no right answer because many of the opinions and suggestions are subjective and personal. However I do think there are a few priorities that everyone can agree on. Having more customisation and a colour or no colour option would really help, and as its already pretty easy to change lots of colours via "interactive appearance settings" this would be a good way forward. I have loved using vectorworks for over 20 year and still really love using the software day to day. The enjoyment factor is very important, and much of this comes down to smooth workflows and snappy performance, that has been getting better and better in resent years. However, there are still some real log jams and awkward workflows, and the desire to address these is critical. I do think that being able to change icon sizes is critical as users get older the buttons can become harder to see particularly on high res 4k and 5k monitors. I do lots of online training and Youtube videos via Zoom and use a 4K BENQ screen I share running at 2560 x 1440 resolution and lots of people say its hard for them to read the icons. Having the ability to have at leat small, medium and large icons would be essential in my view. Finally, every simple day to day process should be analysed to see if a reduction in clicks or dialogues is possible (It will be) and these should be tackled as a priority. For example we have nested classes using the "-" that allow users to turn off a whole group of classes with one click, and also manage them using the hierarchy. Please follow this though and do the same for nested layers! Its so obvious that this would help as you could then group different design options into one group of nest layers and simply turn them on a off with a single click. This would be a huge time saver alone. As well as focussing on the UI, there are still some areas of Vectorworks that are lagging years behind and are embarrassing us. The roof tool, dormers and lack of parametric roof lights being one of my biggest concerns. Every building in the world has some kind of roof, and the roof tool needs a huge overall to make it more function, robust and also user friendly. Why do we not have a single roof and roof face tool (rather than it being hidden in the AEC menu) that work like the slab tool? Finally, please, please, please make the "Shim Gap" settings consistent so they are remembered between sessions rather than imposing a 7mm shim gap ever single time you restart vectorworks. If I had a pound for ever-time I have had to say "beware the shim gap...... Also Bi-folding doors need the same attention that sliders have had, and this has been an active request for at leat 5 years now, and still not been tackled. Finally, I would truly love to be able to drag windows and doors widths and heights directly in plan , 3D and elevation. This is how architects design, and having to punch numbers into a dialogue than repositioning windows and doors does not allow "design flow". I accept that deeper settings need the dialogues, but even right clicking or smart options specifically for doors and windows ( then other parametric in the future) would be a huge bonus as it would be a more modern way of doing things, while leaving the existing workflow for those who are used to it. Finally, I have created and shared my customised and enhanced JRA workspace with hundreds of firms and customers over the years, but the workspace does cannot control all the other aspects like preferences and data bar options etc. It would be really helpful if the workspace could set everything to do with layout and preferences etc. when first loaded ( then let people change this as required) and this would save lots of time when training as everyone would have the cat same screen set up to start with. This would mean that more vectorworks or users could create more customised workspaces that could be downloaded and shared. While we are on this, please make it possible to tick all the options at once in the dropdown quick preferences icon rather than having to come out and back into the dialogue multiple times. What does anyone think about this ideas? I would love to hear your thoughts on the above.
  5. @Christiaan I totally agree with this. The Current workarounds for creating roof lights, especially customer ones is simply too clunky and unreliable. We need a roof light tool that is totally parametric like windows, and ideally more directly editable by dragging and resizing. I would love to see windows and doors one day have direct stretching capabilities too rather than always typing in numbers. Please get a roof light tool on the development program along with other major roof improvements to the roof toll as it has now become the weakest link, and lets face it every building has a roof! I would love to see gutters added as a roof option and rainwater pipe tool, instead of having to custom model all of this.
  6. @C.T I normally prefer to use the space bar, but tapping my middle button on my MX Master mouse works great for single handed use. Not sure how to make this work better on the wagon, but maybe doable the middle button and stick with the spacebar activation.
  7. @Helm I like the idea of being able to reshape walls for existing buildings instead of adding wall projections or niches by adding and clipping surfaces. Being able to reshape them like normal 2d polygon tools would be awesome!
  8. @elepp I would love to see more direct editing for basic things like window and door sizes once they are placed. Imagine being able to simply stretch doors and windows to fit opening sizes as required directly on the drawings in 2d or 3D. What a design tool that would be, as entering numbers from the OIP or setting dialogue really breaks a designers flow. There could also be some rich click functions for the most critical deisgn based decisions like door type, or window casements etc. I don't see much mention of the roof tool, which really needs more flexibility, and how about adding some tools for gutters and rain water pipes as every project needs that to make it work, and customer modelling with extrudes is time consuming and not really BIM compliant. What does anyone else think about moving in this direction?
  9. @Helm Encape is nice and the renders are good, especially for interiors but only runs on PC. I find Twinmotion better for externals, landscape and animations. I simply export via Cinema 4D, and it works pretty well, but a direct live sync will be so welcome!   10. Congratulations on being so open about whats in development and being considered. This is a positive step for current and potential future users who can see the roadmap is positive and answers a lots of questions like " Will Vectorworks run on Apple silicon Mac" and "Will there be a Twinmotion direct link plug-in ?" Epic games do this, and also allowed both Beta testers and the public to vote and comment on the features, which I think is a great way for you to get feedback on what the most important priorities are? Are there any plans to do that as it would certainly be interesting for everyone and most of all the development team? Thanks for Sharing!
  11. I would love to be able to Resize viewports by dragging, for viewports that do not ned to be scaled like perspectives, or image and photos etc.
  12. @Andy Broomell & @grant_PD Great Suggestions. Image effects is super useful, but needs to keep improving and these suggestions really help.
  13. @Pat Stanford Better but still wordy. How about simply "Create Wall Style" or "Create Slab Style" or "Create Door Style" etc...
  14. I train lots of users to use Vectorworks and it always makes me cringe to say the words "New Plug-In Style from Unstyled Plug-In" Please simplify this as not only is a tongue twister for most users its not clear what it means at all?
  15. Just tried this out on VW 2020 and its works fine! Vectorworks please add this as a more integrated feature ASAP!

  17. @zoomer Agreed. However realtime rendering for interiors with atmosphere is are also very nice. Check at Unreal engine to see where the future lies, but the time saved in these busy times with Twinmotion and a fast graphics card is unbelievable. The Render quality and libraries of the 2020 release coming soon is improving a lot and for me the hours I save by not waiting for long renders Artlantis and C4D only to be disappointed with the results have long gone. I love Renderworks for its day to day use, and still use it in every project for elevations and quick studies, but in my opinion I have Neve had so much fun so fast as with Twinmotion. We just need the native Vectorworks direct export so its easier to update the model lots of times during the workflow as this is the only current downside in my view. The SkecthUP plug works great! I am really hoping for the vectorworks to Twinmotion direct link soon, although the C4D export works well at present, its not so great for updating. He mentions direct export plug ins at 12:34 !

  22. @milezee Yes, I was but decide to wait and see how it performed with 16GB and so far it's great. I can easily add another 16GB to make it 32GB later when and if required!
  23. @milezee No, I bought it from Mesh here in the UK: https://www.meshcomputers.com I did a fair bit of research and decide on this model if your interested: https://www.meshcomputers.com/category/black-friday-sale/matrix-r3900x/ The 12 cores rally help with any rendering and the graphics card is pretty much the best out there at the moment, so any Open GL work or intensive GPU rendering like Twinmotion is super smooth. After 25 years of using Macs its my first PC, and these days windows is fine, and actually I love the look of the new PC. Check out how cool this case is compared to the new Mac Pro Cheesegrater which in my view is not as nice as the original G5 Cheesegrater Macs ( I have had 3 of them) What do you guys think?
  24. @Mark Aceto Lucky you. Please tell us how you find the new MacBook Pro 16" as I am looking a reason to upgrade my MacBook portable for work on the go, as I still feel Apple make great laptops! However, I could not justify even consider the new Mac Pro....So I just bought my first ever PC I have nicknamed "The Beast" as it eats Twinmotion for breakfast, and it has AMD Ryzen™ 9 3900X CPU, AM4, Zen 2, 12 Core, 24 Thread, 3.8GHz, 4.6GHz Turbo processor and a 11GB GeForce® RTX 2080 Ti Graphics Card! All for only £2K+ VAT. Its also really nice to be able to max out settings in Renderworks and not worry about time as it chew though 300 DPI renders in final quality. Part of my thinking was that I will use this machine to do my test renders while I develop my presentation for San Diego on " The Art of Renderworks" What does anyone else feel about Mac Pro VS specced up PC?
