  1. Exciting. Can you reveal the 2017 color? I have been very into mauve recently. Maybe a user vote?
  2. I find the order of columns in the layer navigation panel to be counter intuitive. Really - I would like to have either active layer check to be first - followed by name followed by visibility options. Better yet - have it customizable in case other people do not seem my logic.
  3. Dealing with this again. It does seem to be when 3 different walls meet - which unfortunately is a common occurrence.
  4. I am always confused by this. It does not come into play every often - but sometimes it would be good to know the what VW considers the inside vs outside or the left or the right size. When applying textures it is a coin flip every time if I am applying the right texture to the correct side.
  5. It could actually be great if you could do class overrides in saved views - that way you could modify the drawing in ways that make it easier to draft.
  6. I like the hot key idea. I am not a huge fan of the tool specific options menu location. I would like to see that has a hotkey activated menu. I also think that will be easier to teach. What I really like about that B-Cad quad cursor is that is semi-intelligent - offering up different options depending on the situation and recent activity. There is lots of back and fourth to tool pallets. In the future - I could imagine eliminating 80% of that. When I click on the an object - VW offers the 4 most common tools I use after clicking on that type of object - even better if it can be contextually aware to offer up even better guesses about what tool I am after.
  7. Jim, Thanks for the explanation. I guess things are always more complicated than they appear or should be. Nemetschek has assembled quite a portfolio of brands and software. It would be nice (and powerful) if these programs were a bit more compatible and cooperative.
  8. Once again - I would love if VW would do whatever it had to do to play nice with outside renderers. The more compatible the software - the better. Again - how can C4D have a Maxwell plug-in and VW doesn't?
  9. What would you do with 48GB of RAM? It looks like you over paying for aging hardware in quantities that are unnecessary. I assume you already own a nice monitor. If not - that throws off the price comparison. The 5K is really nice to work with - you can fit a lot on screen with these new 5ks.
  10. The Imacs have had internal updates since 2014. They upgrade component options sometimes twice a year. A new Imac today is not the same as the Imac you would buy 2 years ago. Imacs can handel the 3D side of VW fine - so there is no power reason why you would need to go Pro - so the only reason should be price. If it were me - there would need to be a serious price discrepency between for me to consider buying a machine that old. Have you checked out refurb.me? There you can buy refurbished machines directly from Apple. Not huge discoutns - 10 to 12% off of market price - but it can save you a few hundred bucks.
  11. Disagree. Class is a good name - they classify objects. Layer is a good name - they contain infomration and have a stack relationship like a layer. It does cause semantic confusion - but in reality - the names are very logical. I do the training here - and I feel like a semantic poloice correcting people when they confuse them when they are talking to me - but I have not seen anybody - after getting inside a drawing set - actually use them incorrectly.
  12. Buying a 4 or 6 year old computer sounds like a VERY bad idea. I do not know much about the techincal sides of hardware - but the architcture of the chips can change so much in that time you can run into problems. Even if you wanted to upgrade it - do mondern components work on a motherboard that was designed more than half a decade ago? You are also buying a machine that is out of warentee. You could easily have component failure. We try to replace machines every 4 years - sometime we strectch it to 5. We ussually see 1 major failure in that time - ussually HD or Graphics card - sometimes motherboard. A new Imac should last you 4 years, a 4-6 year old Mac Pro - maybe 2 at best? So it would have to be less than half the price to even consider it. Even then - it seems like more problems than it would be worth. I am dual platform (Mac by day-job, PC by moonlight) and there is much more value on the PC side. If you can stomach the switch - you can get more power for less if you can exit the cult.
  13. Thanks. I love the look of the surface book - but I guess at 2600 bucks there is much better value elsewhere.
  14. Does anybody use VW on a surface pro or surface book? I am thinking of getting one as my next laptop. I am just wondering if they really have the chops. I would be interested to hear anybody's experiences.
  15. Thanks. No. I know that Dropbox and Drive do not work like a server. I was hoping there was another service - maybe Google Cloud Services, AWS, or Azure that somebody was using for this purpose. One of the sample videos that was released to demo Project Sharing shows a team with every person remote. Jim - do you know how they were connected? Were they just logging into an offsite server? If so - wouldn't a cloud server be the same thing?
  16. I want first to preface this question with the fact that I have no idea what I am talking about. Is it possible now with Project Sharing to use a virtual cloud server to run a project? Is a virtual cloud server a thing that exists? Ideally, I would love to use Google Drive or Microsoft Onedrive - but I do not think those work the way they would need to, but maybe there is something that does approximate a server but is actual just a SaaS kind of situation. Has anybody out there been able to get rid of in-house server infrastructure?
  17. I would love the ability to split a worksheet into multiple columns. Many times a worksheet is too big to put on a layout. We then need to put in a design layer and then crop it with viewports. Not ideal. I just saw this demonstrated in Revit. It is a pretty nice solution - a button on the top of the worksheet instance that allows that instance to be divided into equal columns. We need that.
  18. We localized the problem. It does relate back to rotated plans. The user origin shifts while in rotated plan - and the act of referencing in or updating a reference then reset the user origin to the rotated position.
  19. I did not know there was such a difference between regional releases. I know about WinDoor - and always wondered why we were not allowed to have it in the states.
  20. We are finding that it is not the references that are changing orgin but the file itself is having its user origin changed. Still happening in 2016 SP2 - though the files are older.
