VW should recognize that you are:

    1. typing a number list hitting return and indenting,
    2. by starting another number, etc. just like the above visor.

If we can get 'tables' and 'sections' with the text tool, that would even be better.

We would love to do all our specification within one program, and if Vectorworks can either 'link to' a word document and 'place' the contents, or simply have good text editing functions, it would make our workflow so much better.

Should we interpret this as VW Spotlight lighting devices will function in TM?

Hi @JuanP I also have a similar question- about lighting in Vectorworks, and how they will work with Twinmotion (and also Redshift)

When working with lighting consultants (as we do for most of our projects), we are generally given a 2D CAD drawing with lighting points.

With this information, we meticulously re-create the lighting points in Lumion/Enscape in order to achieve a good render. This process takes a lot of time, and each time the lighting design changes we have to modify it in Lumion/Twimmotion/Enscape.

So, we'd like to use an alternate workflow, in which our lighting designer provides lighting points as 2D/3D hybrid symbols, and we import these lighting points into Vectorworks.

With the Vectorworks model complete with lighting points, we then export the entire model into Lumion/Twinmotion/Enscape (and hopefully next year, Redshift) for rendering.

These hybrid symbols furnished by the lighting consultant can be complete with lighting IFC information (as you'd know, the IFC part 'describes' the luminary for rendering purposes).

With these 2D/3D hybrid symbols, we can have correct 2D symbols appearing in architectural RCPs, and the 3D also has illumination data.

This workflow (for lighting consultant to give accurate 2D+3D information) can save us a lot of time from re-creating what the lighting consultant proposed.

Can you enquire with Twinmotion and Redshift whether their packages can pick up these types of 2D/3D symbols as lighting points?

    Many thanks,

    • Redshift - We are working on getting Renderworks "REDSHIFT Ready" for the 2021 cycle.  Even though this is not a realtime renderer per se, It is a faster RW rendering.  It will be a quantum leap for Vectorworks built-in rendering.

    • Twinmotion - We are working with Epic Games to connect Vectorworks with Unreal Studio, Twinmotion, and any other Unreal-based applications.  Ready for the 2021 cycle.

Hi @JuanP if I may follow up on some of these answers:

    (1) When Redshift arrives for 2022, will it have full functionalities of Redshift? Or would it be a 'lite' version that doesn't give us full control.
    (2) We can't wait to see the Twinmotion Direct-link released, can you give Epic Games a gentle nudge to hurry them along?

A SUGGESTION - Redshift and lighting IFC
I'd like to end with suggestion for VW/Redshift, which will make the process of rendering in VW faster and easier, particularly when working with lighting designers (I do for most of my projects).

Lighting designers generally give us a 2D drawing with lighting points, and we have to meticulously re-create these lighting in our 3D model in order to create a render. This process takes a lot of time, and we are basically doing the job that the lighting design should do.

So, we've developed an alternative workflow, where we ask our lighting designer to provide lighting points as 2D/3D hybrid symbols, complete with IFC information for the 3D part (as you'd already know, the IFC part describes the luminary for rendering purposes).

With these 2D/3D hybrid symbols, we can have correct 2D symbols appearing in architectural RCPs, and the 3D contained within has IFC data, which can light our 3D model for the purpose of rendering. This workflow (for lighting designers to give accurate 2D+3D information) can save us a lot of time in re-creating what the lighting designer proposed.

So, ny suggestion is for Redshift to be able to read these 2D/3D hybrid lighting symbol, and pick up any IFC lighting information inside the symbol for rendering.

@Mark Aceto & @Aspect_Design As we have shared in the past, we are actively working with Unreal Engine developing a Direct Link between Vectorworks and TM. And even though I don't have an exact date to share now, let me reassured you of the progress on this task. I will share more info with all of you as it becomes available.

Hi @JuanP would you be able to share any updates on the development of the Twinmotion Direct-Link plugin?

Our Mac-based office is still tossing up between buy some Lumion licences, or wait for Twinmotion Direct Link to come out.

If we can have Directlink with Twinmotion then we can stay on the same Mac Platform for our rendering operations, which is what we prefer.

  5. @mbft I didn’t try the above two things you mentioned but will give it a try.

however, a robust, well tested program shouldn’t require us to waste time to find awkward ‘workarounds’.

data took seemed like a good idea when developed by the engineers, but in reality wasted so much of our office hours that we would have been better if to manually tag everything in the first place.

@klvanov can you please swiftly attend to this? Also I note I cannot tag you in posts, and if you blocked me from doing so because of my Previous complaints about data tagging tool I suggest you remove the block, otherwise I’ll ask the forum moderator to do so

  6. I just tried using 'print' instead of 'publish' to see if this issue resolves.
    It didnt.

We have a perfectly tagged drawing that we simply can't send out because when we try to output it weI lose our tags

SO, this is becoming a frustrating catch-22 for us. Tag-print-lose tag-Tag-print -lose tags.

Can someone at Vectorworks fix this immediately? Data tags was touted as one of the crowning achievements in VW2020 but gosh it just doesn't work!!!
Am I supposed to send my contractors a screen grab??? How very unprofessional

This we reported this issue in another form on March 13th in another post but it now still persist. Frustrating and unacceptable!

  7. We continue to get this constantly and we are frustrated as hell.
A drawing seems perfectly fine with data tags reporting the correct information.

But upon publishing, the data tag blanks out, and we get data tags with no content.

    We then retag them.

This is such a waste of time, we do this over and over and over again.
    We are on 2020SP3 btw.

  8. Hi @Frank Brault . Today. I find myself needing to present Sanitary Fittings and Tapware selections to my client, and it reminded by how useful it would be to attach multiple images of the tap to the '3D object' in the model.

That would make my task of presenting our selection to my client much easier

Would you be able to have further conversations with your engineer to see if this is possible? This would be useful for all Vectorworks users.
