Popular Post theatre4jc
Creating a sloped floor is very annoying and difficult. When drawing a simple rectangle, it's not to bad, however when there is any kind of curve to the seating it's a huge pain. Many theatre and house of worship venues have curved seating areas with raked seating on a slope. It would be great if there was a dedicated tool that was smart enough for when the floor is drawn and a minimum height is put in and a maximum height is put in, the slope and angle is properly placed. People always suggest the drainage tool. If that is really the best option, maybe a dedicated training video that specifically shows how to do a room that has a curved back and multiple fall angles for the sloped floor. Popular Post grant_PD
We need some dedicated tools for theatrical productions, live and taped. 6 Quote Link to comment
Samuel Derenboim
Use the hardscape tool with custom elevations. The sky is the limit using that tool. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Quote Use the hardscape tool with custom elevations. The sky is the limit using that tool. Spotlight doesn't have the Hardscape tool. Theatre4jc's request is a very valid need for Spotlight users. 2 Quote Link to comment

lily123
Totally get the struggle! A dedicated slope tool would be a game-changer. The drainage tool workaround seems a bit iffy, but a training vid could help. Quote Link to comment

shorter
What is wrong with the roof face for sloping floors? Spotlight menu > Architectuiral > Roof face? It gives the following options... Might have to build multiple floors and join them but 'should' be possible. While it's name is not logically linked to the process, we use it for ramps too. Far easier than using the drainage tool. Your post suggests that you do accomplish this task, albeit with some work. What method(s) are you using at the moment? There may be some tools that could be added to your existing workflow that make it easier. I use standard tools only in my work. Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
@VIRTUALENVIRONS Your example doesn't really capture what a complex theater house floor is doing. This plan view shows more of the complexity. In this example, the rows are even in height across center/left/right aisles. But the slope can change as the rows move away from the stage towards the back of the house. The aisles must remain level across their width. Quote Link to comment
VIRTUALENVIRONS
@grant_PD I think I know what you are saying. The slope is not constant as you move away from the stage. Is that correct? Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
@VIRTUALENVIRONS yes. I have had success taking the centerline section (usually all that is provided) and building the corresponding sections against the house walls left and right. From there you have 3 nurbs curves (Left, Center, Right) to create a loft from. Quote Link to comment
VIRTUALENVIRONS
@grant_PD OK, got it. I am on another thread with @Scott C. Parker on seating. These two threads are very similar. Scott has been playing with using Hybrid tools to put the seats in a section of my imported model. Does the seating tool work for your model? Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
Currently the seating tool just makes me angry. So I avoid it. I will master it one day, but not this week. Quote Link to comment
