DTM Error Message

What is a Miscellaneous Error (20,2)?

I am trying to create a contour model, following the procedure in the manual and as recommended in previous posts. I use the Bezier tool to draw the contour lines, bottom to top; I convert them to polygons and then go through the Survey Input procedure to convert to 2D polygons to 3D contours.

Then I try to create a site model and get the message:

A miscellaneous error has occurred. (20,2)

No overlapping contours, no doubling back; all layers at 1: 100 and each 3D contour has a z value in the OIP when converted. What am I doing wrong? The error message gives no guidance at all and the online help appears not to list errors.

Any ideas?

I don't know what a "A miscellaneous error has occurred. (20,2)" is but I've had errors show when some small non polygon is laying around someplace.

If my memory is correct the (20,2) error has to do with overlapping, doubled-back or discontinuous poly's. Although I noticed you said you are sure there are none, there are two commands that *might* help, both are in the AEC>DTM PROCESSOR submenu. "Check 3d Poly's" and "FIlter 3d Poly's". Hope that will help!

I just got the same

"A miscellaneous error has occurred. (20,2)"

while trying to modify an existing DTM with a pad.

is your modifier on the same layer as your source data. If so move it to another layer.

I moved the modifier to another layer and with the Site Model operation decided to create the Proposed DTM and it resulted in another site appearing next to the original. Double clicking them shows one is the Existing DTM and the other is the Proposed.

But why do they show simultaneously?

Thankyou all very much for your suggestions, and for the speed of the response. The problem was nothing to do with a modifier because I have not started to alter the site model but there may have been another polygon floating around that affected the computation.

I particularly appreciate Peter Cipes pointing out tools that can assist. It often seems that there is too much in VW for one brain (or one set of manuals) to record)

I have finally created a model by moving all the contours to a completely clean drawing and so have avoided redrawing them all, which I was dreading.

I figured out , at last, that a lot of crazy suff had happened to the problem file. I seems I had done several DTM tries and the drawing had retained some information that was incompatible with the same but new one I was inserting.

I finally solved the puzzle when by chance I saw the DTM symbol in the Object Info palette and decided it should not be there since I had deleted all the previous DTMs. So I deleted it, re-did all the steps towards a new DTM, and %@#^ at last !!!!

IT WORKED!!!

Interestingly simple and potentially wacky, those DTMs...
