My arrow key preferences keep reverting to default...

hollister design Studio

Question

I think I've posted about this before.

Almost every day after I've restarted VW two of my arrow key preferences revert to default.

Both 'Switch Active Layer Class' and 'Pan drawing' I've set to disable.

Here is how I left them:

When I restart VW here is how I find them:

Which means that I'm constantly panning the drawing and wondering what the heck is going on before the coffee has had a chance to kick in....

Notice how BOTH nudge and Pan drawing are set to 'arrow'.

No other preferences change on me.

Any ideas what I'm doing to cause this?

This is almost certainly going to be caused by data corruption, either in files inside your Vectorworks User Folder, or within the Windows operating system's 'Registry' database. Either way, the following process will account for both possibilities. Make sure you abide the recommendation at the top of this guide, to make a copy of your Vectorworks User Folder before you begin and have a copy of your serial number handy.

I've had to do this three time since I got VW - is this just to be expected?

File/Data corruption is a fact of life and there are various causes. Typically, 1 in 1500 files are affected by corruption at any point in time. Nothing particular to Vectorworks, although I don't have stats to compare how often User Folder data gets corrupted compared with other file types that get read/written to or held in [vulnerable] memory in equal amounts. Simply put, files that get read or written to more, are more likely to get corrupted. It happens, so expect it and have backups to account for it. 😇
