Femestate
Hello, I wonder, each time i make a simple 3D opening "a hole" the wall loses its wall-function and it's no longer possible to move windows around or change them. I create the holes by substracting a 3D-solid from the wall. A sugestion please? Quote Link to comment
jfmarch
try using the 'cased opening' option with either the window or door objects. its a neater way to create openings in walls, you can move them real easy, and its easy to change the size in the OIP. hope this helps... Quote Link to comment
Femestate
I think this still puts in a window, i want to make a opening of various forms, oval or round for instance. Isn't there a specified tool to make holes without a window or door placed? The biggest problem is that the wall loses it's filling in 2d-plan (solid, pattern or hatch) Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted March 15, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 15, 2005 The Cased Opening option does not insert a window, and the wall remains a wall. Quote Link to comment
Femestate
In witch directory or on what palet may I find this, I'm using a dutch version and 'cased opening' is probably renamed. Thx in advance Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted March 15, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 15, 2005 I'm not sure what kind of window the Dutch version uses. I think you should contact Design Express for support on this one. Quote Link to comment
Femestate
I'll do that, thx anyway Quote Link to comment
SacSurfin'
You can just create a symbol and then insert it into the wall, any shape and any size you want. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Not quite any shape - re- entrant corners will not work. For example if you have a 6 pointed star shape it will cut a hexagonal opening in the wall. I only discovered this limitation when I tried to model up an 'L' shaped door/window unit. The opening truncated across the re-entrant corner. I even tried inserting a 3D locus at that point but it made no difference. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Femestate - Round and Oval windows are not possible with the NNA window plug-in. Thus it sounds like it would be worth you learning how to create your own 2D / 3D hybrid door and window symbols. Then you will be able to do almost anything with doors and windows. For example you can create splays to openings by including appropriately shaped perimeters to your windows. Give these the same class as your walls and in OpenGL and RenderWorks renders they will blend into the wall. [ 03-19-2005, 05:05 AM: Message edited by: mike m oz ] Quote Link to comment
islandmon
1) Create 2d shape(s) 2) Convert to 3d ( side view ) 3) Add 3d vertices to all corners and arc handles to match thickness of wall. 4) Create symbol 5) Edit 2d symbol and place 'Top' shape with insertion vertex viola! Quote Link to comment

Thx in advance The Cased Opening is not a separate tool or menu item. It is a selection within the Door or Window Tool. Look for the Config. Pull-Down Menu within the Door or Window Preference or OIP where you set such configurations as Simple Swing, Bi-Fold, Pocket, Casement, Double Hung, and of course Cased Opening.
