LarryAZ
I know I can ungroup a roof and edit solids and add a roof slab and line them all up, but it takes a long time. There are many houses with dutch hip roofs. Has anyone found a good way to do this? Thanks - Larry Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
this is a big long to explain here but when you ungroup a roof it becomes a series of roof faces. do not solid model the roof faces. Double click on a roof face to edit it... My Architect Tutorial covers all the roof tricks that i know. It is available from: https://vesta.safe-order.net/archoncad/manuals/manuals.php Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted October 20, 2004 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 20, 2004 Here's another way that does NOT involve ungrouping the roof: 1. Create your (lower, larger) roof from a polygon. Don't delete the poly from your drawing. 2. Use the Offset tool to offset the polygon inward to the desired face of the upper (Dutch) gables. 3. Copy the (smaller, offset) poly. 4. Select the roof you created in step 1 and use the Enter Group command. Paste the poly. 5. Exit the roof. It will now have a "hole" in it in the shape of the smaller poly. 6. Re-select the smaller poly and make a roof from it. Set the eaves to vertical. 7. Set the faces you want to be gables in the (smaller, upper) roof. 8. Voila, Dutch gables. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Yes Jonathan is correct. After double clicking on a roof face you will have the polygonal shape from which it was originally created. All you need to do is draw a trianlge which extends the ridge/gable (as appropriate) and use the "add surface" command from the tool menu to add it to the original shape. Quote Link to comment
