Hugo
Is this possible, using the wall tool? Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Yes - Extend the wall past where you want it to end. - Draw a line at the required angle and in the required location. - Select both and choose Trim from the Tool Menu. - Choose the line as the cutter to perform the trim. - Delete the line and excess portion of the wall. - With the wall selected add a 'Cap' to the cut end in the OIP. This will give you a wall at the angle as you require it. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
as well as Mike?s suggestion, you can also use the Split tool. The split by point will split the wall normal to the wall direction, the split by line can split the wall at any angle.. Then as mike says, add the cap. Quote Link to comment

mike m oz
A word of caution on the use of the Split by Line Tool - it may split things that you don't intend to, or want to, split. For example if you have 3 objects drawn in 3 separate classes and have the Class Options set to Show/Snap Others it will split all three objects including those in the none active Classes. Ditto for Class Options of Show Others and Gray Others. The only time it won't split all three objects is if you have Class Options set to Active Only. To my mind this should not happen. When you select to have only one Class active it is usually because you only want to draw or edit objects with that particular Class. To have it work any other way is a nonsense! I prefer to use a line and Trim Menu choice because it does work in a logical fashion. [ 09-01-2005, 11:51 PM: Message edited by: mike m oz ] Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
there this a modifier that you can use to split only selected objects; on the Mac it?s the OPtion key on windows i think it?s the ALT key. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Jonathon is right again. Notwithstanding this the fundamental flaw in the operation of the tool overriding the Class Option settings still exists, The View Options for Layers and Classes are a fundamental protocol of how the program works. Having one tool which ignores this protocol confuses users and results in uncertainty about how the program works. It is the inconsistency that is the problem - why should this one tool work differently to all other editing tools by ignoring the Class Option settings? Quote Link to comment
Hugo
Wow! All this is great info for me! Actually I made several mistakes in a drawing splitting more objects than the single wall I wanted to edit. Glad to know the option key will save me from this. Thank you all for this very useful info! Quote Link to comment
BG
Didn't know about the modifier that Jonathan mentioned. Good tip. I have always temporarily grouped the object to be split to avoid splitting other things. BG Quote Link to comment
