Spotlight LX Record - Parts

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Question about Spotlight "Parts" Record.

For a while now, I've been seeing Lens & Point field show up in the parts record as implemented by VWX.

Are there any features of the program that utilize these record fields at this time? It seems that some fixtures have these fields implemented, while others do not.

Other than 3d orientation/focusing to focus points, does the parts record any additional functionality - or is this for future use.

Thanks!

Ben

The extra records have been there for a couple of releases and have no function at the moment.

I hope that with the new release of vwx in a week or so we will see their implementation.

My hope is that in a Renderworks style (or maybe even OpenGL!!), they will provide a visual glow of the lighting devices’ lens as well as a way of providing a starting shape for the projected cone of light.

”Watch this space” I guess!

the point part was added due to issues with multiple loci in a lighting symbol causing the geometry to switch to the insertion point being used as emission point and rotation point.  this is to help ensure that it does not cause that error any more.  at the time, we were also looking at some possibilities of exports to Vision which would have required other loci to help Vision with things in its rendering.  That did not pan out, but we had already implemented the point by then.  I am still hopeful that we will someday get multiple emission points in Spotlight, so I keep it in there.  With the starts of the GDTF format for fixtures to make Visualizers and lighting boards work together, the Vision export will probably never happen, as there will be other options for export that we didn't even have in mind three years ago when we started this and added in the points.

The Lens function is still a wish of mine to assist in making emissive lights for renders, give you that lens flare in the background.
