Markvl
Don't know if this is a glitch or I'm missing something, but when I import a sketchup file into vectorworks the objects are always showing as wireframe and will not change in any of the rendering formats. Are there any solutions out there. I tried a couple of different sketchup files in case there was a problem with the first one I imported but I'm getting the same problem. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 20, 2014 Any SKP file imported into a new blank document has this issue for you, or just ones from this source? You can grab a number of test imports from here if you only have SKPs from one place handy: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/ Quote Link to comment
Markvl
I figured it out. I had to dig into the individual symbols and apply a solid to them. Quote Link to comment
DMorong
I have found that if you have a solid fill as the default in the Attributes Palette the object will come in solid. If you do not have a fill it will come in as just edges, but as you mention you can then click into the object and apply a solid fill to the mesh. I do have to say the improvements in Sketchup import in 2015 are absolutely great. The ability to easily use the vast resources of the 3D Warehouse is immensely valuable. Quote Link to comment

That SORT of makes sense, since when you generate new objects with a tool they would take on the already-specified attributes, but I think a wishlist item is in order that defaults the fills of imported meshes of any kind to solid. I'll look into it and see if that would mess with transparencies or something else before submitting it. I do have to say the improvements in Sketchup import in 2015 are absolutely great. Phil hunt
the import are really fast is there a way that the object when imports can be central on the working page the model i imported to try this out was a ways a way from the centre of the sheet thanks Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 23, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 23, 2014 I think it is currently keeping the coordinates from the original SKP document, I'll submit a request for this to be user controllable, I had some troubles during testing finding newly imported geometry within an already busy file. cberg
It would be very helpful to import sketchup files to fixed coordinates. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 24, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 24, 2014 I put in a request for a few options: 1) Original Coordinates (Determined in Sketchup) 2) 0,0,0 (your document's center) 3) Current view center 4) User-specified coordinates Quote Link to comment
