Basic BIM stuff

Anyone knows where to find some decent tutorials about BIM?

The vectorworks 2015 commercials are telling how intuitive and awesome BIM is in Vectorworks but I can't even find a tutorial that describes how to connect a slab with a wall.

Sometimes I succeed in making wall and floor connect but as soon as I move 1 side of the slab out of the wall all connections are lost.

Have you "auto connect walls" OFF ?

I think that has to be set to ON,

otherwise you will generally loose any connections when moving something.

It's worth to try.

I learned this about walls some weeks ago for the first time.

I also always lost wall slab connections in the past so i do my slabs

manually.

As with most complex things, you will need a strong dedication to trial and error/experimentation usage of the program... After you've done the above mentioned tutorials obviously.

I create slabs by walls, bucket or polygons.

I mean I edit them manually.

As I always lost my connection to walls sooner or later.

But that might have been the auto connect setting which

I usually have off because my wall connections needed to

be done manually most of the case.

But I will try again soon.

Wall/slab joins should be as easy as can be in a program that sells itself as being BIM... It's the basic of building.

it should avoid overlapping that it givess reliable mass and cost calculations.

Sheven, I can attest it is pretty easy once you know how! Obviously you can only know how once you've learned how, therefore doing a couple tutorial exercises. Sorry to be blunt, but knowledge never just lands in your brain!

They are and have been for several versions now. When Connected Walls Mode is on the slab will move with Wall location changes.

Ok, finally I found a tutorial which uses more than just generic wall and slab with no components. Now it is clear how it works.

Hmmh,

ah, that option of the Move Tool.

I have always activated that Connected Walls Mode.

I mixed it with the Auto Join Walls button.

So I can have that deactivated without losing connections, right ?
