Phil hunt
I use the convert type to polygons to create extruded type, to create 3d lettering, so for instance "New York" extruded to 50 mm with a height of 400mm, but is there a way to create 3d extruded letters that can bend say around a cylinder in a vertical mode or do I have to ungroup the extruded type and manually move each letter into position to create the curved look. I often design work with a curved fascia and instead of using a flat decal would like to use the 3d extruded letter look. Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
can do as a texture.... Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
Text Along Path will do what you're doing manually. Each letter remains flat but is placed tangent to your curve. The advantage is you can edit the text. Try this thread - Text Along Path Thread Kevin Edited December 10, 2013 by Kevin McAllister Quote Link to comment
Monadnoc
Now with the Displacement Mapping capabilities of VW, I wonder if you could do it with a texture using a clever displacement channel? Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
forgot to add that i export my model to artlantis render so i can map a flat decal onto a cylinder quite easy.... but to give me the 3d look it's better to have the extruded type. It would be nice to be able to type with a 3d letter along a path with an extrusion as required, thus saving the convert to poly-lines.. but thanks all for the help Quote Link to comment
