steve s
I made a new dtm, but cannot do anything with it, I have to keep saving to new file as getting the Out of Memory error. Is there any way I can fix it without starting over. Can I run smooth Polys or something on the Source Objects? I made the DTM by Polylines then converting to polygons then ran Survey Input 2d polys to 3d contours and also had stake objects, I suppose its fairly complex not a huge site though. Does the scale matter? I have plenty of ram, turning off all layers but the site model doesn't help. Thanks for any help Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
You might try the Simplify 3d Polys command. You should run it on the source polys, then re-create the Site Model. Make sure to visually inspect the 3d Polys before and after to ensure they do not get over simplified (read: hugely inaccurate)... Quote Link to comment
steve s
Ok I'll give it a try, thanks. ....later that day... It worked, made a huge difference, some of the rounder, smaller areas I needed to fix but the rest still look good enough. thanks again Edited February 11, 2013 by steve s Quote Link to comment
ray isaacs
hi, steve. yes, this is one of my irritations, as i work with large, hilly sites. a fundamental practice is to make everything as simple as possible from the beginning, as peter describes, but then going forward as well. the dtm tool is in my opinion the best available for design work, compared to other modeling and/or bim software. but, the memory problem is a pain in the butt. it seems to be cumulative. so, as you develop your design constantly ask how many vertices you actually need. that goes for texture beds, pads, etc. usually the first indicator for me is when mesh smoothing suddenly stops working. further reductions in model complexity help get it back. cheers, ray Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
There was another recent thread about cumulative memory errors. Would a periodic System restart offer any additional help for this DTM memory error. http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=182029&Searchpage=1&Main=35899&Words=memory+restart&Search=true#Post182029 -B Quote Link to comment
steve s
That was my topic also, another project same situation, I was over estimating the abilities of VW with 32 gb ram. Live and learn Will limiting the amount of undos or anything else help the situation? Edited February 12, 2013 by steve s Quote Link to comment
