Migrating/Customizing Workspaces

VincentCuclair

Question

Migrating and customizing workspaces is something that needs to be done at least once a year, at the moment it is quite a tedious process, partly because new functionality often includes new workflows and therefore new palette and tool layouts.

I would like to have some kind of functionality in which it is possible to migrate and at the same time customize and update Workspaces.

Things to take into account:

1. Once a migration is initiated it must be possible to add new functions/tools/commands/tools bars etc. (preferably from a list that only includes missing features).

2. Customization must be made more user friendly, i.e.. selecting and moving/dragging/deleting multiple tools/commands at once would be very useful.

3. Merging workspaces and backwards migration would be nice (but is not of great importance).

4. A nice touch could be to view the old and new workspaces side by side to better coordinate the migration.

+1 more.

While the WorkSpace Editor was sort-of-OK as a a concept it really could do with a Catch-Up Crash Course.

Vincents Drag&Drop "In VW" suggestion is very apt as the editor is perhaps a little long winded only being able to deal with one palette at a time. Side by Side view would be a very practical solution too.
