Katrin
VW2010. I have quite a big space and all walls have dado and skirting. I've created dado rail using Extrude along the path. How can i create a Dado itself (it's painted darker compared to the rest of the wall but it's flat, not extruded)? Should i just duplicate main wall along it's path and make it 1 thick and appropriate height? Are there any better solutions? Quote Link to comment

Dieter @ DWorks
What's a dado? Quote Link to comment

Guest
There is no easy & accurate way of creating a dado in 2010 try EAP and pray you dont have to edit it (move a door)...in 2012 i recommend extracting wall surfaces for tiles etc but editing surfaces is PITA..Surface editing/plane tools need a major overhaul..maybe 2013? bcd
It also depends on which version of VW you have. If you're running VW architect you can create a wall component of .1mm thickness and the height and position of your dado Quote Link to comment
Dieter @ DWorks
Draw it seperately with a wall or railing. Doing this on your walls doesn't work well. The railing is really handy as you can get almost everything you want if you play with the parameters. I use it to create stuff like this and glas wall for showers, ... Quote Link to comment
Guest Wes Gardner
The dado (in the States, wainscot) can be built as a component of a wall (2011 & 2012) and as a separate thin wall at a height of 114 cm or whatever in 2010 or Extrude Along Path, the skirting rail (Chair rail), crown and base moldings will need to be created with Extrude Along Path. taoist
This wil create a 3D object for your use. See sample image below. Do a search for wainscoting on the forum. This is from August of last year. Select panel style (V match T&G) profile as an example. If need be go to http://www.forestermoulding.com/applicat...mp;SearchType=S to download 2d Profile You will need to create an account, no cost involved. You can also save your moulding choices to your My Mouldings. There maybe a profile in Copper Beach Moulding Library, not sure Save moulding in VW blank new document Give document a name (Wainscoting) as example Edit profile for alignment along 4 corner axis. Copy symbol, exit symbol Paste on plan, not on wall Extrude to desired height In plan view: Find center of wall and place center of extruded profile on this center reference. Draw a line inf needed. I center the profile along the wall as this is how it would be done in the real world. You may run into an instance where you use the edge of the profile for center for better end piece sizes. Use Move along points or Duplicate Array to fill length of wall with the extruded profile Use side view to align extruded profile to desired position. Render, give color / texture to your wainscoting and enjoy the view. Edited March 28, 2012 by taoist Quote Link to comment
Guest
Enjoy the View?....from a box with no openings? Why dont you put in fancy Door/Mouldings/Surrounds and then move the door several times, then you all realise Cost (Sticker shock-artistic and construction) becomes a major factor. No body with high labour costs does that stuff,we dont see it(Aust) in high rise, commercial nor low end housing HTH Quote Link to comment
taoist
The purpose of the exercise was to show what can be done with wainscoting (Dado). Here is the U.S. we do do this in mid to high level homes. It is also done in entry level homes as a cost add-on/ option (Change Order). In what I do for work, the interior 3D renderings is a must. Our clients love it. Could it be easier to do , wainscoting and mouldings, yes, but that is up to VW software engineers. We (VW users) have been asking for years to simplify the process. VW has great 3D ability but moulding process (profile and EAP) is not conducive to speed. We will continue with the tools we have till then. Quote Link to comment

The majority of users arent students or artists mate, we dont work only ( 1 project at a time)for passion and a hand to mouth existence hoping for the big pay $cheque. Its $/hr...squeezing productivity->efficiencies-> data, etc, etc $CONTRACT/PROFIT. Quote Link to comment
taoist
Building Design Consultant, I appreciate your point of view. We do not work on (as you put it) one project at a time either. We are also not a drawing factory. We do no commercial work. Our drawings are part of the ConDocs, and are not "the" contract. We also use other software to produce drawings faster, especially 3D. VW has abilities the other software does not and vice versa. Bottom line, cash flow is king. Here are some more samples. Be sure to save as symbols so you have them for future use. You can also use cabinets for a raised panel type wainscoting. Use wall cabinet, set depth to 1". Edited March 29, 2012 by taoist Quote Link to comment
