  1. Can you please describe briefly what you do? Lets for simplicity say you have some simple shape, a sphere(front view e.g circle in our case in 2D) and it's lit from the upper right corner. How would you draw a shadow using the described technique?
  2. VW doesn't allow me to setup the thickness of pen of more than 6.48mm ? Is there any way round this?
  3. I'm drawing a column in 2D using simple lines&curves etc. Is there any convenient way of drawing shadows for example to show the depth of the flutes & in the leaves of capital(like if I was manually hatching). Create polygon from inner boundary doesn't really work for me as I don't need to fill the whole shapes with color Any ideas? -- Vectorworks Designer 2010
  4. I was digging into the same & found another solution. This works for me as I've inherited from hand drafting a habit of having tilted break lines. Let's say you have a viewport with rectangular crop and want to have a break line instead of the bottom border of the crop. Right-click viewport-> Edit Crop-> Place a Break line symbol(at whichever angle you like) in the crop-> Select your original rectangular crop -> click on Clip tool -> create a polygon that follows a break line contour and a bottom of your rectangular crop -> Clip. This will Clip the breakline shape from the original rectangular crop leaving nothing below the break line. You can also try creating the crop in the same way from the every beginning(upon the viewport creation).
  5. I need to draw a column in 1/4" scale and also draw it's capital as 1/1" detail(placed next to column). How can i place 2 drawings with different scale on the same sheet? I do the following: 1)The column I did using lines/polylines on a separate design layer in 1/4" scale. 2) Then i create a viewport of the column's capital in 1/1" . 3) When i click OK I get a message: "Not all visible layers have the same scale. These layers will be displayed with the scale of the viewport". What am I doing wrong? Should i use some absolutely another approach(not viewports) to accomplish this?
  6. Sorry, i'm a bit confused. Let's say i have a square room plan & 4 elevations(1 per each wall). Do you mean that you draw: 1) 2D plan using just lines/hatches etc and also 2) a separate 3D room using walls/doors/windows so that this you can use for deriving elevations and for setting up a camera projections(that you can use when discussing a design with a director/DOP)?
  7. No answers ..Is it a hard question or the question itself is not clear?
  8. What objects(2D or 3D) do you use when you draw in VW for films(drafting)? If you use 2D then you can manually create shades where you want(just like in hand drawings) & also draw as complex shape as you wish. On the other hand i find it stupid to use VW for 2D because it's basically designed to do both 2D and 3D at the same time and thus is a way better than AutoCAD. Do you draw in VW in a way that allows you to see 3D view as well as 2D(e.g use walls, columns, extrude along path for cornices etc) or you utilise just 2D components so that you are more flexible with your drawing?
  9. cant believe nobody knows that
  10. Crikey, figured that out. Am I missing something or UI needs some improving? to draw section like this: --> | <--- instead of doing: 3--4 | 1---2 I have perform the following clicks(in order): 4--3(5) | 1---2 At least that's the only way i've managed to figure out
  11. Hi Mike 1) Yes, i mean stepped viewport(term Broken is used in Nemetschek guide ). Could you please explain how to do it? I know, it sounds silly, but i'm must be missing just some mouse/btn click. Literally, I do the following: a) first 1 l-click - "start" marker b) second 1 l-click - end of first "step" 3) third 1 l-click - start of second step 4) double l-click - "end" Marker. Then VW shows a dialog with "Create section viewport" parameters. Result: First step of the viewport only. End marker is placed where the first step ends. Should I hold any Shift/Alt keys maybe to "tell" VW that i'm still keeping on drawing steps? (nothing like that is mentioned in the manual though). What is suspicious is that VW draws section direction(triangle) already at step b), so apparently it doesn't expect me after b) to keep on drawing steps, it expects just to point direction and section depth. Any suggestions? 2) "Limited by Section Line Length" - works , thank you very much!
  12. VW2010: Can't figure out how to create : 1) Broken section viewport. I click my mouse, i draw first leg of the section, then i click it again and drag(still pressing a button) to create a second leg, and then repeat this for the third. Unfortunately every time i do this i get only first leg created(second and third clicks apparently just define the direction and depth of the viewport as if i was just creating a plain "nonbroken" viewport). How to create a broken viewport? 2)How can i restrict the width of the viewport? I define the viewport boundaries by markers(when i draw section viewport). By some reason when i check the result on the sheet layer i see that i get much wider section, basically it's as wide as my whole drawing(e.g spreads far beyond markers). Why does this happen? Please help
  13. VW2010. I have quite a big space and all walls have dado and skirting. I've created dado rail using Extrude along the path. How can i create a Dado itself (it's painted darker compared to the rest of the wall but it's flat, not extruded)? Should i just duplicate main wall along it's path and make it 1 thick and appropriate height? Are there any better solutions?
