Creating a ramp

Hey all,

First time poster so be gentle.

I am currently building a stage in VW '08.

One level is at 80cm and the other is at 55cm there is a 360 cm gap between the 2 levels. I am trying to create a straight ramp the right length but can only get it to do the heights needed and not the length.

Any help appreciated.

Use the Ramp object in the Building toolset.

Have tried using that but can only get it to go to floor level and not join in to level at 55cm. Any advice?

You might have better luck switching to a side or front view, drawing a polygon for the profile of the ramp, and extruding it the width of the ramp.

If you like the ramp tool ramp you can enter a bottom value in the Z field of the OIP or use the move 3D command. Modify > Move > Move 3D

I think i am confusing myself unneccesarily.

How do i extrude horizontally instead of vertically?

Extrudes will always occur out of the screen plane towards you so:

- Go to the appropriate elevation view.

- Draw the required 2D shape.

- Extrude the shape.

- Switch back to Top/Plan View and move the extruded shape to the required location in plan.

Just a guess, but are you trying to do something like the attached?

If you change your view to look at the side of your ramp, you can draw the correct polygon there. Without changing views, choose Extrude from the Model menu. You will probably need to adjust the position of the new object in Plan view, as it extrudes on the working plane.

Funny I've never even tried the Ramp tool. Its clearly designed for architecture and not very intuitive for scenery design. I would want to choose the start height/end height (or alternately ramp height), length and width.
