How do I turn off these lines?

How do I turn off these diagonal lines and the diamond? And strangely enough, when I opened the same file today, those lines are gone. I hear Twilight Zone music! See the attached screen shot.

It looks like you were in a working plane. (Shift-1 is the keyboard short cut.)

Switching to Top/Plan view will take you out of the working plane and back to whatever the ground plane is called now.

Thanks, Bruce - Now it's happening to me!

I think the Attribute Mapping tool is causing the problem. It turns on the attribute axes and - most annoying - it sometimes turns "show grid" on.

Sorry Michael. Forgive me! I think it's some kind of bug. It appeared when I started a new file, then went away. I don't know what else to think. Your suggestion above did make it visible, and then invisible again.

Well done, you put the Dock on the right side of the screen, as all sensible people do (it's an Apple thing, PC users can move on to the next topic - although perhaps not, hasn't Micro$oft pinched the Dock idea for W7?)

You can also hide the Dock, so it resides just beyond the screen, and it reappears when you mouse over the edge (System Preferences>Dock>Automatically hide and show the Dock). This frees up a bit more screen real estate for VW.

Depends if you're using external monitors though. I have on to my right so the dock needs to live on the left (or bottom).
