HP Sauce
Attached is a PDF of one of our "guinea pig" VW BIM projects. If you refer to the hidden line/fqrw elevation at the top of the page, you'll notice a line at +14'-0" elevation that seems to show through everything on the right-hand side. The line is where the first/ground floor walls hit the second. How on earth do we hide this? Floor settings:- 1: Z = 0, DZ = 14'-0" 2: Z = 14'-0", DZ = 14'-0" I couldn't find any similar topics but if you know of one or have any tips, it'd be greatly appreciated. Quote Link to comment
digitalcarbon
start by turning off layers one at a time and rerendering to see which layer it is on. this will tell you if it is some object or not. if not an object try to cut a section to see if something is misaligned. Quote Link to comment
John Meunier
Could it be a 2d projection? It is a check box on the viewports obj info. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
I believe it is neither of the above. Here's what it *probably* is: VW's hidden line is very sensitive to very small errors. So if your upper floor and and ground floor are not precisely aligned, both in 2d (x,y,) space and 3d (z) space there will be an erroneous line exactly like the one posted. I also must say that VW's has improved greatly in this regard with it's latest (2009) release. HOW TO FIX IT: 1) go to top/plan view, with layer vis set to "active only". Make the ground floor plan (whichever layer those walls are in) active. Very carefully draw a single straight line exactly along the exterior of the wall line. 2) "Cut" the line, and switch to the upper level plan (or wherever those walls are) and then "Paste In Place". 3) Now all you need to do is align the upper wall with the line. You can do this by either dragging away and then back to the line until it "snaps" to it, or you can drag it away a bit, then use a second line to measure the exact distance and then use the "Move" command to move the wall exactly that far (and .0001 counts!). Now make sure to go and "Update" the viewport. (hint, sometimes you might need to update it twice) Additionally, you can avoid this in the future if you actually use a wall to "copy" and "Paste in place" on the next layer. That way you KNOW they're aligned exactly in plan view(s) Edited December 15, 2008 by CipesDesign Quote Link to comment
HP Sauce
Thanks for the help. Embarrassed to admit that it was little more than some 2D elements being projected. Fixed now but thanks for the alignment tips, Peter. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
We've all been there! No worries. Glad you got it fixed ;-) Quote Link to comment
