neilmaggs
hi i have wv11.5 on my desktop pc. i upgraded to vw and when i did this i get a problem that the mouse slows down a lot when it is over the CAD environment (when in VW - its fine outside of VW). i installed vw12 on my laptop to see if the problem occurs but it didnt. but vw11.5 and vw12 run fine on my laptop but now both versions run slow on my desktop. i have updated quicktime, my mouse drivers and my graphics card software but the problem is still there on my desktop computer. i have tried uninstalling and re-installing the software but that doesn't help. any clues? islandmon
Do you have the Smart Curser active to snap to Grid / Objects ? Quote Link to comment
neilmaggs
no. i have noticed that the mouse slows down while VW starts up. program works fine on laptop so i am sure the installation of VW12 has changed a setting somewhere. Quote Link to comment
Guest
Do you have the same mouse for both computers? What about other running programs, amount of RAM, etc. ? Quote Link to comment
neilmaggs
Let me restate problem: VW 11.5 works fine in desktop and laptop computer. I install VW 12 in laptop. Mouse moves slowly in desktop for both 11.5 and 12. Then install VW 12 on laptop, both versions works fine on laptop. No other programs are affected on desktop. Mouse starts slowing down in CAD environment from moment i start up VW, but works fine outside of VW CAD environment. Quote Link to comment
Guest
I understand the problem. I'm trying to determine where the problem lies. In order to make a fair assessment between the two computers, we have to look at hardware - are they two different mice ? If so, what type of mouse is used by the laptop -- or are you using the trackpad? What other programs are running? How much RAM is on the laptop? RAM and other running programs play an important role in how devices are managed by the Operating System and could perhaps be conflicting with other programs. Quote Link to comment
neilmaggs
Laptop has a trackpad but works equally well when USB mouse from desktop is plugged in. Logitech Click! mouse. But have been using trackpad. No other programs running except firewall/antivirus software. both computers have 1 GB Ram. its a bit strange that vw 11.5 used to work fine on desktop until installation of vw 12. Guest
So which mouse / pointer device are you using when you experience the lag? Quote Link to comment
neilmaggs
Logitech Click! Optical Mouse Although now installed software on a third computer and mouse works fine on that one. it seems just to affect my home PC. Quote Link to comment
Guest
So you only see this lag during the launch of VW, and only on one of two tested desktops with the same mouse and mouse drivers. You've also tested using the same mouse on the laptop and do not have the problem. Is this correct? I'm sorry, the information has been a little hard to follow for me. Once the launch of VW completes, the mouse speed resumes to normal speeds, correct? When you notice the lag, are you just moving the mouse around on the screen or are you trying to flip to another window, or open another program? Quote Link to comment

I'm sorry, the information has been a little hard to follow for me." sorry will try be clearer "Once the launch of VW completes, the mouse speed resumes to normal speeds, correct?" no - the mouse is slow but only within the VW CAD environment, when I minimise the VW window and go to another program, the mouse is normal speed" "When you notice the lag, are you just moving the mouse around on the screen or are you trying to flip to another window, or open another program? " the mouse is slow on the VW start up screen and once the drawing environment is open, if I minimise the window the mouse returns to its normal speed. Quote Link to comment
Guest
The mouse speed stays slow while you are drafting in VW? Earlier you said you had no other programs running. I am now reading that you minimize the window and go to another program all is well. What other program(s) are you running? It definitely sounds like a mouse driver conflict of some sorts. Did you recently update all the drivers at once, or a few at a time? Quote Link to comment
neilmaggs
"The mouse speed stays slow while you are drafting in VW?" yes. mouse also slow down when VW starts up before i can start drafting. "Earlier you said you had no other programs running. I am now reading that you minimize the window and go to another program all is well." sorry that was unclear. when i minimise screen and go to desktop mouse is normal speed. if i close VW and open another program such as photoshop mouse is normal speed. "What other program(s) are you running?" none when VW open. "It definitely sounds like a mouse driver conflict of some sorts. Did you recently update all the drivers at once, or a few at a time?" updated mouse driver only. reinstalled quicktime _________________________ Quote Link to comment
dontevenjoke
Is it connected through a USB or pin connection? I have had problems but when I changed to USB it was fine. Quote Link to comment
neilmaggs
hello, problem solved. bought a different mouse and VW works fine not sure what problem was with logitech mouse. thanks n Quote Link to comment
jnr
So I just found this after having posted regarding 12.5.2. It seems that the issue is with Vectorworks code and it would be silly if all users on Logitech devices now have to go out and buy a mouse other than one made by one of the most popular input device companies in the marketplace. Will NNA be offering replacement mice vouchers? Quote Link to comment
D Wood
I'm still on v12.5.1, I have a Logitech MX700 and it is working just fine on all programs. Quote Link to comment
jnr
D: Try updating to 12.5.2 and see what happens. Quote Link to comment
