some way to give only the 2d view

I've lately had several clients ask me for just the 2d portion of plans, because they don't want the 3d portions. I know I can convert to lines, but what I'd like to do is export just the 2d portions of hybrid symbols.

The only relatively easy way I can think of to do that (especially if you have a bunch of these symbols, which I assume you do) is to make a '2d Only' copy of each symbol, then write a script which replaces each 3d symbol with its 2d counterpart. The initial setup would be quite time comsuming I suspect, but it might be worthwhile in the loing run. Of course there's another option: tell your clients to shut up, take what you give them, and be happy about it ;-)

My machine is rendering now, so I havent checked this out, but isn't there an option you can check in dxf export, where you export only 2D objects from a plan view?

start in a Top/Plan view. When you export, VectorWorks will export just the 2D portions of hybrid objects.
