Brandon Kleiman
I wonder if this sort of modelling is possible in VW. I'm trying to create a similar piece of scenery that looks to be in forced perspective. It would be so easy to model it as a regular piece and then skew, or sheer, or warp it into this spiffy shape but all I see are the deform tools. Am I missing something? many many thanks Brandon. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C40tNHaLK6J/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Quote Link to comment
Jeff Prince
This is not Vectorworks’ strong suit. It’s “possible” using the deform tools, depending on how your geometry is modeled. If it’s a solid, you’ll have a chance. There are solutions by other companies that will do this much easier, one of which was shoe in your link 😉 Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
@Brandon Kleiman @Jeff Prince has it correctly re skewing 3d models similar to video in your link. Buuuht . . You might be able to get close with the shear tool. Only works on 2d objects, or groups of them. So, no PIOs for walls, windows, etc. End result is polylines, or group thereof, which can be extruded or otherwise modified. For scenery, perhaps this is enough for layout and fab work? -B Shear(1).mov Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Stephan Moenninghoff Posted March 28 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 28 I think it's quite possible with the tools we have in Vectorworks. I used the Deform tool with Taper Solid mode. Should be pretty close to what you need @Brandon Kleiman Skew.mp4 4 1 Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
I've done this sort of thing before with the deform tool. If you want to do a row of buildings, you'll probably need to do them individually. I used some common guidelines to do it, so I had a common origin and common target height. The guidelines were beyond the buildings. Kevin Quote Link to comment

Benson Shaw
@Stephan Moenninghoff Brilliant! This two step process eluded me. Not sure I would have ever discovered that separate deforms on different planes is the answer. Many thanks for revealing. I tried on a couple generic solids made from extrusions of my 2d sample. One worked. Deform failed on the other. Some persistence may be required. -B Quote Link to comment
