Chamfer edge fail

I draw a simple square. I extrude it to be a cube. I try to chamfer one of the edges using the CHAMFER EDGE tool. The OIP always says "Extrude Locked". I have read that this is a bug. I have tried it in a new document (not my template). Still never works. Any thoughts? Seems like a very simple problem in a very expensive program.

 

If anyone has solved this issue, I'd love to know.

Hi Edmund,

When I opened your file, the chamfer was set very low, I think .016 and it would not show.    I set it to a higher number and it worked fine.  Try that.

Hello,

The setting is remembered from the last time the tool was used and is not carried with the file. When you select the edge the OIP describes this as a locked extrude (in this case). Which is correct as you're about to perform an operation. Click enter/return or the green tick top left of the drawing window to complete. It's always best to consult the excellent Help. On this page there's even a movie about it.

Thank you both for your replies. I had the set back at 1" but, as Peter said, this was not shown when you opened the file. I think maybe I was just not using the green checkmark to execute the function. Seems to work now.
