Using Subtract or Section on Hollow Object

Recommended Posts

I have hit this wall before and thought I'd check and see what I can find out here.

I have two pieces of pipe modeled and want to joist them at right angles. When I do this and use the Subtract solids command I get the little left over pieces on the section pipe inside the other pipe. I end up creating an additional extrude and use a solid extrude as the sectioning object to get the piece inside of the pipe to be deleted.

But I'm wondering if there is a cleaner way to solve this that doesn't require me to make an extra extrude for sectioning?

Thanks.

Harry

HI,  Just asking, if you want to join them, why are you not using Add Solids.  Anyway another way around either problem could be to Add or Subtract Solids, but don't have them hollowed out.  Do them as complete solids.

Then use the Shell objects to hollow them out.  It will only show hollow on the initial entry point if that makes sense.  You would have to either cut a little away from the other ends or do a subtract solid on this ends.

Actually, you can make a multiple surface selection with the Shell Solid tool which would remove the need to cut the ends off.
