  1. Does anyone honestly think, feel, believe than VW will ever get up to speed? Would be great, but the sentiment appears otherwise. Time will tell.
  2. Why does it appear that Nemetschek seems more concerned with yearly releases than a true working product? What would happen if they released a new version say every 18 months or 24 months? Assuming of course the new releases work as they should. I am more concerned with having the product work as it should in place of it being half baked. Can you imagine; 64 bit Multicore Multi user Uses graphics card engine instead of CPU OIP tabbed or other than current endless scrolling The abilities we have been asking for Improved interface Use of dual (or more) screens Libraries by type instead of all grouped together (more scrolling) just to name a few

  4. How about align by component ability?
  5. Maybe turned off by default, but it still has ties to the real world, at least in residential so it is not obsolete. It needs to be corrected though as it uses the rafter depth for the Gable End Wall thickness. Should use the wall thickness (stud) the rafters sit on or if Gable Truss, use 1-1/2" as they are usually framed on the "flat".
  6. sash, As I have no experience with Trial versions, I would say yes, download the file again. I assume that VW includes all files in the trial, what would be the point otherwise. Other trial users may have a better answer.
  7. In Resource Browser Click on triangle to get Vectorworks Libraries. See File Menu Image. Go to VW Libraries > Objects-Building Services You will see Electrical Libraries among others See Images
  8. Taffy, What I was trying to convey was, you can edit those classes so you have full control (textures, line weights, & such) of the components. Create classes for the components.
  9. Taffy, Have you checked the class settings for the openings? Click on the Settings button to access. See image.
  10. I created a simple square for building shape. Edit Roof to 0 thick & 0 overhang. Drew square and used roof face tool, 5 degree slope. The roof face tool shows the slope correct. I noticed that the roof sits on the floor (1 floor in my case). So I changed the color of the roof for better visibility and repositioned the roof to be at the top of the walls. Some might say "It's a massing model" well we still need to show the correct roof planes. As I have never used the massing model before, I find it disturbing that one can't change the roof style as there are no "handles" to the roof planes or any style options in the OIP. All one gets is the Hip Roof Default. AEC > Fit Walls to Object won't work as massing model is a cube? Would need to use Reshape tool I guess as I have not tried it yet. We should not have to Edit, Create or a work around to do this. Kizza, I feel your pain.
  11. Maybe I am missing something, but when I draw a rectangle and use AEC > Roof Face, set slope to 5 degrees with a thickness, and set slope direction it shows a sloped roof. Taoist, are you doing this within the Massing Model Edit mode? If so, what version of VW? (i use VW2012) Sorry, I did not use the Massing Model Edit Mode. Will try that.

  13. To attach an image use Win 7 Snipping tool. At the lower section, below the text/message box you will see File Manager. Click on File Manager. Click on Browse, select file Click on Add File Click on Done Adding Files See images
  14. +2 Again, why is it we do not have the ability to override?
  15. Kevin, I examined your drawing closer. You have 3 separate extrudes 1) shape polygon 1-1/2" extrude this explains the shape cover or deck surface if you will. This is one of the solids used with the intersect solids command. The other solid is the joists. 2) rim joist extrude, 9-1/2" 3) rectangle extrude 9-1/2" All makes sense now. I really appreciate everyone's help in getting me up to speed.
  16. First model the entire volume inside of the rim joist. Then when you Intersect Solids with the field joists you should end up with them trimmed as needed. Then add rim joist. It's how I understand it anyway. Thanks, Appreciate the input. I tried it and it works. Now to see, if i make adjustments, if the joists trim accordingly. The joists are part of the "solid" polygon, not the rim shape.
  17. Kevin, Thank you for the reply. 1) I did the same 2) Did the same 3) Did the same. Used duplicate array. Can't we use the Move by points tool to duplicate by said spacing? 4) Did not seem to need to do 5) Did the same 6) Are the joists touching the frame or are they vertically in-line? 7)From what I can determine, the two solid must be intersecting not just touching each other. When I use the Intersect Solids command, it essentially wipes out everything. I will try your method. Update: See images one shows the joists and shape frame one shows the result of Intersect Solids The joists are vertically aligned to the shape What am I not doing correctly?
  18. Kevin, Could you list a step by step how you did yours? I am having trouble getting this to work. Receive this error message. See image.
  19. Kevin, Thanks for the reply. Will examine your drawing. Did not know about Solid Intersection. Joist tool I believe was a Legacy Tool. Use Framing member tool in Details Tool Set. I assume when say top you mean decking. When you say use solid intersect for joists, do you mean draw the shape, extrude and duplicate array? Will try and see if solid intersection idea would work for this to constrain decking to shape with overhang.
  20. Tool works great. Should auto delete trimmed portions, or have option to which side to keep/delete like Split Tool 3rd mode. Advantage of this tool is no need to draw "split" line.
  21. Just discovered Trim and Stitch in 3D Powerpack. Acts like split tools 2nd mode except you do not draw a line to create the split. Select the object(s) to trim then the boundary. Then select the cut portion(s) that you don't want and delete. Would be great not to have to select what you don't want. Think automatic trim.
