  1. You can adjust the spacing simply by changing the pitch in OIP. Once I figured out using the repetative unit tool for custom lines, I found it way easier than trying to do the same thing in that other program (ACAD). What special programming, type a letter or word, create symbol of it, draw line using RU tool.
  2. Download the toggle viewport on/off from VectorDepot.
  3. What a great tip! It did just what I was trying to do. I can think of half a dozen different things that I want to do now, with this little gem of info. Thanks
  4. I have 3 levels of 2d floor plans that were imported from AutoCAD. Is there a way in VectorWorks to show these as an isometric view.
  5. Is there a document that lists all the new features of 12.5
  6. If you are using version 12 try the repetitive unit tool. Create a symbol in one of the drawing files in libraries>defaults>repetitive unit>... The symbol could be a simple rectangle. Rep. Unit tool repeats a symbol along a polyline, you can edit the polyline, and how often the symbol repeats. I thought this might also be a cool way to create custom line types, with a repeating SAN, GAS, C, H, along the line. I haven't tried that yet though.
  7. If you are using Mac OS X, the preview program will convert PDF files to lots of formats. Look under File>Save As
  8. to david Real AutoCAD pros keyboard everything, ???. I would put my AC skills up against anyone. I would say, that pre release AC12 much was done by keyboard. Since then AC has evolved a great deal. Otrack is a great command once you get to used to it. As AC progressed I started keyboarding less. What I find that since I have two hands I use my left for keyboard commands on the left side of keyboard all commands accessed on right side I use button commands with my mouse. This avoids the constant moving your hand from mouse to keyboard that plagues a lot of AC users.
  9. Robert with a bit of playing around on my last project I was able to set up my windows to do what you have drawn in your example, except for brick return at the jambs. How did you get the brick face to turn 90 degrees at the window jambs?
  10. If your coworker knows AC they would know that the scale command in that program is really good and easy to use. I'm using VW 12.1, I don't know about previous versions, but there is a little check button in the export dialog to rescale layers to 1:1
  11. Ugg!! I need a spelling and grammer checker in these posts.
  12. The only problem I had was making sure all the layer names were different I've have wanted to WGR information from two separate drawings files, that have the same layer naming structure. Which means I have to go back and rename the layers in one of the drawings. Sorry to use the AC word, but when you xref drawings in that program, it simply puts a prefix in front of layer name. This not only allows you use the same layer naming in all you drawings put tells you what the source drawing is for that layer.
  13. I had the same problem, so I just made the border size larger than my sheet size. This way the border was outside of my printing area.
  14. Building Sections @ a scale of 1:100, Cropped viewports of the wall sections @ 1:25. I want to use the same geometry for both. We have tried putting the notes in the viewports, and on top of the veiwports (sheet layer). If you place the notes inside the viewport when you move the viewport around everything move as one entity, and when you add dimesions they give the correct value. If you are working with multiple viewports it can be a pain jumping in and out of each of them to add annotations. So for myself I now prefer to put the annonotations on the sheet layer and the dimensions in the viewport. If everything in my drawing is at the same scale then I prefer to add my notes and dimensions directly on the design layer. The biggest disadvantage that I see for having notes in viewports or on sheet layers with geometry in the design layer is that it is harder to collect all the information together and place it into another file.

    Fill Patterns

I think that hatches are the way to go. unfortunately these are legacy drawings where fills were used.
  16. I am having a problem with the printing of fills on our plotter. I have rectangles with a straight line fill pattern to represent plywood. The vertical rectangles 19mm X 914mm at a scale of 1:10 are printing as solid black lines, the same piece rotated 90 and fill changed to horizontal equivalent, prints with no fill. Our OS system is MAC OSX tiger, On mac G5 the plotter is a HP800PS. VW12.0.1 any help appreciated
  17. I purchased a logitech wheel mouse. I found that if I used the default Mac driver the pan function worked. If I used the logitech driver the pan function did not work (I mean the pan function where you only have to depress the wheel mouse). Also why would I want to have to depress the spacebar in order to pan? If I did then I would have to put down my coke in order to free up my left hand.
  18. Thanks for the input guys. I ended up using the regular text tool, then grouping it with a polyline that had a arrow at one end. This means that I couldn't use notes from my database (not the end of world). The reason I wanted to rotate the text. Imagine a floor plan of repeated rectangles where each adjacent rect. is rotated 8deg, to simulate a curve. As the rotation of each rectangle becomes greater it gets harder to add notes that do not interfere with dimensions and walls and other objects.
  19. I am working on a building with a curved floor plan. I would like to be able to rotate my callouts to match the angle of the segment of the floor plan that I am working. The callouts appear to want to maintain a horizontal position. Is there a way to rotate callouts? Thanks.
  20. Travis the stud is not in the block, it is behind the split face block ie. gypsum, 140mm stud, sheathing, air space, 90mm split face block.

    Door ID Tag

Nevermind, I tried to drag the tag out of the way and it kept moving the door out of the wall, so I went away to have a little meltdown, and when I came back it worked.

    Door ID Tag

How do I move the door ID tag. I clicked on the "On Schedule" button in the Door PIO, this placed the door number on the drawing. However in a couple of places I want to move the number from the centre of the door.
  23. I want to use the wall styles tools with actual material finishes shown. Something that they have not done in this office before. I have a stud wall on a grid line, as the wall continuous along the material finishes change from block, to wood siding, to gymsum. In order to do this I now have three different wall types. The thing is that I always want the control point for the wall to be the centre of the stud, not the centre of total wall thickness. I know that I can insert the wall with a control point offset, however when want to manipulate the wall later the control point is now the centre of the wall again. I would like to know how other people deal with this. Thanks.
  24. When I used the keynote feature, for every keynote I used in a viewport I also place one instance on the sheet layer outside of the printing border. When I want to use the same keynotes on the next sheet I copy/paste the keynote objects on to the next sheet.
  25. Arch.Ken I was just lamenting about the same thing the other day. Often doors are placed 4" from the corner of the wall. Using the offset insertion mode was not helpful because as you said you have to do a little bit of math. I have some other softwares at home that I've tinkered with. 3D Arthitect, and Punch Home Architect, both under $300, and both do this function just fine.
