  1. Tad- I use Task Manager for most of my drawings tasks. It is generally quicker than the old way of flipping around thru classes and layers. The one gripe that I have with it is that when 11.5 came out, it was not adjusted to include the sheet layers that get created. That is not too big of a deal, but sometimes I would like it to be in there. I went away from office templates several versions ago, when one version (9 or 10) would not work with our custom template and we had to toss them. We customize certain aspects of the program (like the class names, colors, linetypes, etc.) that are not a big deal to redo when an updated version comes out. Mind you, I have only started to tinker with 12. Some of the features I like, but I am not crazy about some of the fundamental changes that were made, especially the elimination of standard shortcuts and some of the revamping of the project set up. If you have been on the program since Minicad, as I have, you ceratinly are not clueless. We all like the groove we get into, and any dimming of productivity usually sucks. HTH and good luck.
  2. Charles, We are on 10.3.8, and we run over gigabit network to a Xserve running the latest server update. The notes reside in a shared location with the rest of our project files and other shared libraries. We set up the reference to the notes database, and that works fine, but as soon as we go to place a general note or a call out that references the server location we get the error. i do not have the exact text with me tonight, but i will post it tomorrow.
  3. Since upgrading to VW11, we have been keeping our notes databases on our server, so the entire staff can refer and edit them. With the 11.01 upgrade, the notes database, when accessed, would give an error message that meant it was open in another location (which it was not) and then it would mysteriously be erased from the server altogther. I have been able to reproduce it consistently, especially with the upgrade to 11.5 (which I was hoping would fix it). Has anyone else had this experience?
  4. Here, Here!! I thought I was the only one dealing with it. We have it happen when a drawing is created on one machine and then opened on another. And recently it is happening on the same machine. Some how the width sets itself to 0" or the text moves away from the leader. The only way to fix it is to reset the width of the text and then everything is hunky dory. Any thoughts from NNA?
  5. What happened to the "Add to Note Database" item that was under the Text Menu in VW 9.5.3 and 10.5.1? Is there an equivalent tool to add a text block to the notes database, or do we have to cut and paste it in?
  6. I would be cautious about the new iMac for a while. The G5 processor generates a huge amount of heat (just look at the cooling schema on a G5 enclosure - it has 6 fans) and I am not confident that the cooling designed (3 low speed fans) into the iMac will be enough for processor intensive tasks, and could effect the LCD if to much heat builds up. The enclosure also houses the power supply which can generate a considerable amount of heat. Remember that the iMac is a consumer machine and designed for occasional use, not heavy duty all day burns. I would opt for the low end G5 if cost is a factor, or find a new discontinued model through a reseller. HTH!
  7. I know it is in a new place, but cant seem to find it. Anybody know where it is? Thanks for your help.
  8. buz- are you running on an airport network? i have experienced the same thing we have two machines w/ 2 licenses and that will pop up every once in a while. i usually rebooted my computer until i figured out the airport was causing it.
  9. I am working on 10.2.8, but have not seen any noticable differences from 10.2.6 or earlier. My biggest complaint is that the object info pallette is sometimes very slow to respond. Otherwise, everything is status quo.
  10. thanks for the responses - i have not had any luck w/ the change of resolution (like i used to) i have a 20" cinema display and it keeps everything where it is, unfortunately. i am going to create a custom workspace and see if that cures what ails me.
  11. we have run into a thing where the object info palette is stretched beyond the lower boundary of the screen, so we can not access the tabs at the bottom. to get to them, we need to change from one workspace to another. any suggestions on how to fix this? we have already tried dumping the plist file, but that did not work. macosX, vw 10.5 [ 09-16-2003, 03:44 PM: Message edited by: rcarch ]
  12. This can definitely be frustrating - the 800 has a built in 6gig hard drive, so it should spool fairly fast. One shortcoming is that the HP drivers (for macs at least) are a bit shaky. The Windows drivers seem a bit faster. Also, if you are sending via HPGL-2, it should zip right along, but if it is getting rasterized, then it will be a bit slower. I would contact HP support, since the spooling is more a driver issue than a VW issue. - HTH
  13. I am running a process of elimination right now - I have installed a new system folder on one machine, with only one additional font installed, and that is a true type font, not a postscript font. On one other machine, I have stripped out the one font that i may have been having problems with (thats easy when you only use one font for everything). font doctor showed that a resource for this ps font was missing. i have also changed the fonts in our custom title blocks that get inserted when setup assistant is run. i am hoping that one of these works for us. i am not sure what type of results we are going to get though. i just tried to plot a file from a friend of mine, who uses the helvetica installed with the OS and a preset VW title block, and i was getting the error with his files also. on the clear print settings script, we will run it on a file and it fixes the problem as long as we dont close the file. once we close it and open it again and go to print, we have to re-run the script. not a big deal, but a bit time consuming. if i read katies post correctly, it will run in VW 10.1.2. that would be nice, not having to switch back and forth from classic. we have never had any preset sheets of any type, so i know for a fact that that can not be an issue here. i will post what i find out....
  14. Well this problem has not gone away, that is for sure. We now have it on every machine and almost every file. It does not matter if it is old or new. We have basically given up on it being fixed. The clear print settings utility works ok, but is not a permanent fix. We have done everything that has been suggested, and sometimes it works for a bit, but eventually, the error starts again. The only thing left to do is either reinstall the entire system or reformat the drive. Will there ever be a permanent fix? The folks at HP seem to have given up on this, and the folks at apple have not done anything noticeable. At least it keeps popping up here, but still no permanent fix. Oh well. If any one finds anything new, please post it.
  15. Well you guys seem to have gotten it quicker than HP and NNA combined - there seems to have been one font that was corrupted and so far so good, no more errors. i am going to do some test runs on another machine this weekend and see if it fixes it there als0 - kudos to all!!
  16. Kurt- At this point, about 4 months in, we have tried everything to no avail. I am going to reinstall in the OS on one machine and see if that fixes the problem. I have noticed that if we print from a machine that has been restarted, the problem goes away for a while. I am not sure why, and not sure what causes it to return, but will post what i find.
  17. Katie- I sent john a note a while ago, but did not hear anything back. And, no we do not use any presets (never have actually).
  18. just so everyone knows, the printer settings scrubber script is not a permanent fix. it will hold as long as the files is open, but once you close it, the next time you go to print, you will need to run it again.
  19. see my earlier post on this issue:http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=000103 i am still having this issue, with no resolution at this point other that a time consuming workaround (the print settins scrubber that katie mentions) the corrupted font issues have not shown up in our files and we dont use the custom presets that the hp page talks about. Katie- do you know if this is this going to somewhere along the line by NNA, HP or Apple? I am about to toss my plotter over this!
  20. I agree with P R - you should upgrade the RAM, that is cheap enough. it will def. help with your speed issue a bit. i also hope you are either in australia or canada if you paid $3000 for the program...
  21. "however, when plotting working drawings we don't really want the colour information, more what you see on screen when patterns are used, which is what happens using Macplot." Ian- I am not sure what you are driving at. Please elaborate and I will see if I can help you. We use postscript for everything and do not have any isssues with the output. Prior to OSX, we used Macplot Ultra GraphicPak, and I always disliked the output, especially the line weights and lack of crispness.
  22. katie- have you heard anything back on this error message? the problem has been escalating here to the point that almost every file is affected. thankfully the pdf work around is acceptable in most cases, but there will be a time when it is not. please let us know.
  23. Katie- I emailed everything to you this morning, including the system profiler file. I ran disk utility last week to fix some issues with Word, but that did not make a difference in VW. Thanks for your help!
  24. Katie- Are there any further developments with this particular issue? We are still dealing with it to no avail. HP has not indicated to us that they have even worked on it. I would still like to email you a problem file, but need an email address. Thanks.
  25. is there a way to automatically record sheets plotted from VW? kind of like the VectorWorks Log in the VW folder that tracks time in the program. if not, are there any third party products that do this?
