  1. Unfortunately VectorWorks doesn't handle this very well at all. I've found the best method, if you're not worried about the 3D aspect of it, is to use create a group of suitable polygons to represent the window and place them over the wall. If you're doing it in 3D you'll have to do a lot of manual modelling. Or, you could use OzCad's WinDoor plugin: http://www.ozcad.com.au/otherproducts/vwaddonsWD.html
  2. The Attributes palette allows for one to have it close to the drawing action, but if attributes controls were added to the OIP I'd be more than happy to be able to close the Attributes palette for good. But, I'm a little more ambitious: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=86310
  3. It's not unrelated Ray. The ability of Apple to innovate and improve Mac OS X so much faster than Windows over the past 7 years is partly related to Apple's decision to introduce new technologies that break backwards compatibility with old software. Windows is like the Titanic partly because of the obsessive drive to avoid breaking backwards compatibility.
  4. Great, so then we can have Windows-like backwards compatibility and all the instability and lack of innovation that comes with it.
  5. I concur with Petri. Batch convert your files (File > Batch Convert...), but, as noted, you're doing it the hard way.
  6. Using v13 (v2008) open the v11.5 file that contains the symbols and Save As. This will convert the whole file to v13, including the symbols.
  7. Outer leaf returns can already be done with plugin windows: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=85161
  8. Am I right in saying this update doesn't update the version number of the app? Does it only change other files within the Application folder? After running the update my version is 13.0.0 (78970)
  9. I remember a long time ago Help not working with Safari but I haven't had any problems with v12.5 or v13. I'm using Safari v3.0.3.
  10. That's what I thought. They use it to lock or open certain choices based on previous choices. Here's the document here: http://www.housingcorp.gov.uk/server/show/nav.3881 (download link right at the bottom.)
  11. Good points, thanks Petri. I've started by suggesting they get it working in OpenOffice. If that doesn't work we'll send a formal complaint. And if that doesn't work we'll probably look into your suggestion. Of course we don't want to get in anyone's bad books either.
  12. Because the Housing Corporation in the UK, which funds affordable housing, has just released a new form for calculating compliance with certain requirements called Housing Quality Indicators. The problem is it's created in Excel with Macros and they don't work smoothly when using Microsoft Office for Mac. The person I spoke basically told me they don't have Macs to test on and they've covered most of the market so go suck eggs. He said I was the only one to ring up and complain so far. I just wanted to get a handle of the actual percentage of consultants who would be interested in having this form work correctly on the Mac. Of course they could have avoided all this if they'd simply developed the form using OpenOffice.org instead.
  13. Thanks Jason. Based on that we'd be looking at roughly 12% Macs (minus ArchiCAD users), considering VectorWorks is said to have a 60/40 split on Mac/Windows (according to Architosh).
  14. Or maybe the *number* of VectorWorks and ArchiCAD users in UK?
  15. Does anyone know of any studies that have tried to put a figure the percentage of Mac-using architects. I'm specifically interested in the UK.
  16. Thanks Jeremy. No RAL colour palette then? You might want to fix your confusing Windows speak on the download page too: http://www.nemetschek.net/downloads/fundamentals/2008/2008SP1.php Since when was an Application file in Mac OS referred to as a "Macintosh executable"? This is very cool though: http://www.nemetschek.net/downloads/fundamentals/2008/2008SP1_Notes.php
  17. Doesn't v13 save all your preferences across sessions now? Or maybe not this particular one? I agree with the suggested default settings. I think somehow NNA always choose the opposite of what a default setting should be, which I guess is why they've implemented saved preferences in v13.
  18. Just worked out the massing model uses the parametric roof, so you simply ungroup it then edit the roof separately to include gables.
  19. Can the Massing Model tool do gable ends?
  20. Any 3D model work we *require* is usually of the outside of the building for planning purposes so a modelled stair (which a largely internal) isn't huge on our list of needs. We tend to use the 3D stair until it's time to print our drawings, at which point we convert it to 2D to make it look for presentable.
  21. j.christ Bet you to it: Couldn't agree more by the way.
  22. Bill, we use the stair PIO purely as a design tool at the moment. i.e. we use it to check that we've calculated our stairs correctly (in 2D).
