  1. Hi,

I have had an issue with this rendering since the start of the drawing. Same problem with VW22, 23, and now 24.

The lamp doesn't light up but there is still light somehow. It works sometimes, but mostly the lamp is black.

    Any suggestions? Thanks! 😃

  2. Hi,

I'm working on a suggestion for a stage build and would like to draw some kind of tent/roof with poles and ballasts.

I don't know how to start with the concrete ballasts, poles, and fabric. Does anyone have a good tutorial or tips regarding this? Image for reference.

    Thanks! Martin

We do not have this company in the shipped libraries. The only event frames we have are Aluvision, AV Drop, and for those on VW2024 Quest Events when the September Premium Library update gets released.

Aha ok, thanks! Any clue where I can find them by any chance? I thought they were a part of VW's earlier edition, or am I wrong?

  4. I found this out as well. You need to have the class you want to use for data tags active when adding data tags. In my case I had another riser class active and it pasted the risers from that class onto my sheet, which I didn't want. Took some time to figure this one out....

You could make a symbol for 1’ deck, 2’ deck, 3’ deck  and have the deck height on the symbol. Or you could make those symbols and have a data tag report back the symbol name.

If I create a symbol I can't use the stage deck tool any more right? I thought about that as well, but had second thoughts since I'd need a lot of symbols for different heights and combinations...

couldn't you also use a Dara Visualization, and make all the 24" decks green and the 36" tall decks red?

I've thought about that, but I want to have it super clear what each risers' height is. I might end up doing both of them in the end 😃 Color and height info.

A Data Tag is the way to do it. If you don't have one that's suitable, select a Stage Deck object and run the Create Data Tag command from the Tools menu. It's a fairly simple process that will go a long way to creating a finished Data tag that shows height.

Thank you! Can I batch-do this with every stage deck in the drawing, or do I have to make them one by one? I'd like this feature to be default and for the Data tags to be on a specific layer as well. Can I implement this at the time of putting the decks on the drawing?

    Many thanks! Martin

  8. Hi,

I'm trying to show my stage decks-heights on a sheet layer, but adding a linked text from a record doesn't work as far as I understand.

I tried to use the "Text Option" dialogue box -> activate Height, but that makes the text too small and doesn't align with the riser.

Any tip on how I can do this better?

    Thanks!

I do a lot of ground supported structures, so before I discovered that, I wanted to throw my computer at a wall. I feel exactly the same, haha! 😃

It makes sense but, as a best practice, it's not very well documented. For me, a lot of the confusion is that's not the sequence of how we're gonna build those ground supported structures onsite (typically a goal post, a tower, connect them with a horizontal, wash, rinse, repeat). I guess one has to think the other way around then..

BTW the other thing I'll sometimes do is put the towers (and ballasts) on a different layer (at least until everything is connected in the drawing. Just depends... Will that help the connection process somehow?

There were also few big improvements to BW in 2023 that allow for editing truss systems with much less aggravation. I don't own BW for the time being, but that's good news!

    Many thanks!!

    The workflow has to be:

    1. Connect all horizontal truss and CB’s
    2. Connect vertical truss

Think of the vertical truss as hoists (same order of operations to vertically support the horizontal grid).

Ah, that's a good one. I'll try this one out straight away 😃

    Thanks!!

Would you please post a sample file with the truss included? It'll be easier to help if we can play with what you're using.

Hi again! Would you by any chance have a clue what's going on? Am I just a rookie here or is something not really straightforward with vertical trusses? Now I'm working on a vertical LED GS system but every time I attach the truss to the base it flips upside down, and hence put the truss below the actual base plate. I'm thinking, might @jcogdell have a clue since you're the master of trusses 😃

    Many thanks all!

    Hi Martin,

I tend to stay away from Architecture as I don't understand the language, but the thread was interesting.  As it finally evolved into 3D modelling, I understood what a Saddle Dome was.  Anyway, lots of great information on this thread that points out the many ways to solve a problem.

I thought that the surface method was very slick and simple.  I like slick and simple.

When I looked at Kevin's link to the company I noticed the outside edges were not planar for lack of a better word.  I thought I would show another take on Surfaces.

    So nice! Great stuff! Thanks!

I think in general with referencing you need to be able to keep track of where everything is. Google Drive and Dropbox work well with referencing as long as you keep the files locally and don't allow the cloud drive app to make them "cloud only" after a period of time without use. I know Dropbox does that which has caused problems in the past although not with Vectorworks.

So no, as long as you know where they are, and use relative referencing rather than absolute, you should be OK. I don't use templates to hold anything other than the most rudimentary of settings as for me, they cause more problems than they solve!

I'm probably mega stupid now @markdd, but I don't really follow, so sorry. Do I reference the "Master Symbol" vwx-file inside the venue drawing I'm working on? Do I do that via the References-palette? Until now I've drag'n'droped the symbol I want to use from my symbol file, but then it just makes a copy. In my case I have a folder named "Customers" with all my drawings in. I also have a folder named "Symbols" with my Symbols.vwx in. I want all drawings inside my "Customers" folder to look for master-symbols inside the Symbols-file.

I wouldn't be surprised if you already answered this and that I'm just lost 😃

    Many thanks!

    /Martin
