Islandmon I thought you were happy back there on v11.5 - have you upgraded?
  2. It's to do with Fit Walls To Roof. The roof above the pink wall will be short of the line of the grey wall by a probably microscopic amount, so the pink wall extends up to both roofs, and the microscopic difference shows up as a sliver of wall. As Pete Anthony has pointed out in another post on roofs and modelling, you have to use lots of decimal places to avoid this kind of thing. It may appear that the walls and roof share the same line in space, but there will be a minuscule discrepancy somewhere.
  3. Ant Welcome to the forums, and with regard to your last post, welcome to the club! Actually though, the roof tools are pretty good once you understand them, and there is also an improved Slab Object tool by Patrick Higgins, available from Vectordepot I think. You might also consider getting in touch with Jonathan Pickup in Napier and join his on-line user group - he is a mine of information and tips, worth every cent.
  4. Anthony Welcome to the forums. I suggest you post this problem in the Spotlight forum, and add your system details to your signature.
  5. CCW I didn't say that. Someone else might have, but it wasn't me.
  6. On a slightly different tack - don't throw out the old machine if you have archived files as new Macs don't have the Classic OS installed.
  7. If you have WinDoor, perhaps you should email Julian Carr, but it doesn't look like the projecting wall ends are caused by the window. What happens if you remove the window - does the wall behave correctly then? What happens if you use Fit Walls To Roof?
  8. I agree with Ray, I found timed saves disruptive and annoying, but saves after a certain number of keystrokes has worked flawlessly for years. Getting back to Mike's original complaint, it may be a Mac maintenance issue: Run Utilities>Disk Utility>Repair disk permissions. Do you leave your Macbook on over night? If not, I suggest doing so about once a week. If you don't want to do that, try a program called Macjanitor. You might also want to look at a program called Diskwarrior which rebuilds the directory.
  9. Welcome to the forums. Please include a signature showing your VW version and computer OS.
  10. Another couple of ideas to manage file size: 1. use symbols wherever possible; 2. use Tools>Purge Unused Objects before printing.
  11. Tarch A signature is useful so other users can see the system you use - some of us are Mac orientated, some PC. Your Graphite font may be causing problems - VW seems to be very particular about fonts.
  12. Bill I don't have an answer, but recently when I was grappling with putting glass in the top panels of an overhead garage door, I discovered that the standard door consists of extrusions that are mirrored about the centreline - maybe this is the same thing.
  13. Welcome to the forums. Maybe you could try setting up the file in VW9 with the same design layers as the 2008 file, and copying and pasting each layer in turn. You will lose some things, maybe symbols and features that were introduced in the later versions, but you might get enough to make it worthwhile.
  14. Amy It sounds more like a fault in the backup software than in Vectorworks. What program and hard drive are you using?
  15. Welcome to the forums. You need to contact Jonathan Pickup http://www.archoncad.com jon@archoncad.co.nz He's not a million miles away ...............
  16. Pat Thank you for your reply, and for the info on hybrid symbols - I should have known that.
  17. Pat Thank you for your reply. Not quite that simple unfortunately, there are multiple extrusions to find and amend and classify in a very precise manner and order. Lots (far too much actually) of trial and error before I finally got it to look like the real thing. For instance, when you convert to group of course it is no longer a door in a wall, and if there is a way to convert a group to an object that can be inserted into a wall I couldn't find it. I eventually made a wall opening and put the group in that, and then it rendered properly. This is another example of a VW tool which initially appears useful, but when you want something that matches the real world, you discover that it is severely limited and difficult - it's a one size fits all approach, then on to a new tool in time for the next upgrade. Most of us users would like some time spent on reworking these basic tools, and forget the endless rush to have a huge list of new features for the next upgrade.
  18. I have an overhead garage door with 4 rows of panels, 3 in each row. How can I show the top row glazed, and the other rows below in timber? There doesn't seem to be any way of treating panels within the door differently from each other.
  19. Vectorworks>Preferences>Display>Black background will get you a black screen, then you use white lined and filled walls. Hard on the eyes though in my opinion.
  20. Adrian Welcome to the Techboard. We need a few more details as well, and a signature describing your system would also help. Have you run Disk Utility>Repair Permissions lately? Do you turn your iMac off every night? What do you mean by groups? Are you on a network?
  21. Another trick is to select all the classes in the front Viewport via the OIP menu and make the line colour a shade of grey - this can sharpen up the edges without the heaviness of a black line.
  22. Is this the tool to use to drape surfaces (say paths or driveways) on to a site model? I have tried to use it - I made a closed polygon by tracing over the outline on my surveyors plan, created a class with fill and texture, and made a Texture Bed by using Convert>Objects From Polyline>Site Modifier, and made sure the class was identified everywhere. But although it's called Site Modifier in the OIP and has a blue outline, it has no fill and doesn't show in 3D. Is there a step I've missed? How do I get it to correspond to the site contours?
  23. I've found it really easy to accidentally hit the 3D selection tool (which automatically goes into Top view) instead of the 2D selection tool in the tool palette up in the top left corner of the screen. The first few times, I couldn't figure out what was happening, now I recognise it, but it was confusing for a while.
