  1. Thank you, worked like a charm. In VW11 it was listed as Organize>Scripts>Vectorscripts Plug-in Editor. This will save me a lot of headaches. Thanks.
  2. Is there a way to permanently change default values of PIO's. Right now I am using the Door PIO and want to change the Trim defaults. I realize that changes will remain during a session. What I am trying to do is change them so that anytime I open Vectorworks, the settings that I choose appear and not the "Factory" default. Using VW11 on OS10.3.3
  3. I use Acrobat 5 on the Mac and everything works fine. I print the VW file through a Virtual Postscript printer to create a postscript file. The postscript files are then run through Acrobat Distiller and voilla, a properly formated PDF file. Distiller runs under Classic which is a drag, but other than that it works fine.
  4. Thank you for the input. Jan's idea sounds like a way to make the changes all at once rather than one at a time. Katie: What is the logic in the change in the first place. I have to believe that if the engineers changed all of these shortcuts that there is some logic to it. If I transfer the shortcuts from VW9 to VW11, I would expect that I will encounter conflicts with other shortcuts.
  5. Hi Katie: I am using VW11 on a Mac. Organize>Layer Options>Active Only under VW9 is Command 6. Under VW11 it is Option Command 3. Class Options are also different.
  6. I see that the keyboard shortcuts in VW11 are different than in VW9. Is there a reason for this? Is there a way to change this globally to how VW9 is set up, or do I need to change each command one at a time? I do not understand the logic of forcing us to change what we have learned. Am I missing something here? it makes me worry how VW12 will be set up.
  7. Is it possible to control the exported size of the VR Object under VW11? Or alternately control the image quality? When I zoom in on the object in the exported Quicktime movie, the image becomes fuzzy. But without zooming, the object is so small that detail is hard to see. Using OS10.2.8, VW & RW 11, rendered using final renderworks setting.
  8. G-Pang: What is a Windows Print server. This sounds interesting. Could you explain this more.
  9. Do I understand correctly that a floor plan cannot be converted to look like a hand-drawn plan?
  10. Chris: I am curious. When would you need more than 5 cavities in a wall?
  11. What exactly does the export resolution setting affect?
  12. Here is a recent discussion on the issue. http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=003568
  13. If found this on the Web. It explains how to set up a Virtual Postscript Printer. http://www.omnipress.com/shared/pdfsupport/macosxps.asp While you can create a PDF directly from OSX as Kaare indicates, it will be a larger file size than that which is created in Acrobat. Furthermore, if you want multiple sheets in your PDF, you will need to do this in Acrobat.
  14. I create postscript files in OSX with a virtual postscript pirnter. It uses the Apple Laserwriter software. As I recall I did not have to download or buy any software.
  15. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I find Mike's rendering both informative and inspiring. I would prefer to see examples of VW work stay on the VW website and not migrate to someone elses site. A new discussion area on this board for Work in Progress would be a great idea. Until then, I hope Mike and others continue to display examples of what is possible using VW and Renderworks.
  16. If you are refering to an outside reprographics bureau, I use PDF. On OSX I have two choices. The OS will generate a PDF from the print window but these files are larger than those generated by Acrobat. For multiple sheets I use Acrobat Distiller. My version runs under Classic OS9. I print all sheets to Postscript and then distill them into one PDF file. I just distilled 9 sheets of 24x36 into a single PDF file of less than 1MB. I then email this to the reprographics bureau. This is also how I archive a project. It allows viewing by anyone who has Acrobat Reader.
  17. I am using OS10.2.8 and the HP455CA. I use the free program Gimp-Print and have been using it for a year. It works fine, but slow. There are a number of threads on this board that detail it's use and setup for this plotter. http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
  18. Kurt may have to answer that one for you. My printout says that it is configured by DHCP and then says what the assigned IP address is. As I remember, previous discusssions on this board said that the second test sheet should show the IP address. No mention was made of fixed or dynamic IP addresses. 19. I tried Kurt's advice on using the test button on the print server. Worked like a charm. It wasted two full sheets of paper but it did give the IP address.
  20. Another idea that may help. If you are using a DHCP router, it should generate a table of clients. My router is a Linksys router which is not Mac friendly. It generates the table but with bad names. Anyway, you type the router IP address into your web browser and it accesses the router. Get it to generate a client table and it should show all machines on the network and the IP addresses that are assigned to them.
  21. I am using a JetDirect EX Plus. It is on a network with a router. The router is set up as DHCP so it dynamically assigns IP addresses to the various machines on the network. The print server keeps the same IP address as long as it has power. If there is a power failure I simply start the print server before anything else and it is given the first IP address available. In print center, select add printer. Choose IP printing. Enter the IP address. Select HP printer from the pull down menu and choose 455CA using gimp... Before I do this I sometimes check the IP address of the print server by pinging it. There is a network utility in the utilities folder of OSX. I watch the lights on the print server and ping it. If I have the right address, the lights will flash and the utility will return a positive result. There may be a better way of doing this, but that is how I do it. BTW, when I bought the plotter, HP told me to throw away all of the software that came with the print server as it is Windows only.
  22. Thank you Robert. I have been a user since Minicad and I never knew you could do this. This is a real gem!
  23. Sloped roof area calculators are available in print and on the Web. I too would be interested in knowing if Vectorworks can calculate these values directly.
  24. Those are nice renderings. How did you achieve the 3d spanish tile, both field and hips?
  25. I don't think that I quite understand this. I drew the path in 2d "Plan View" by drawing an arc. I converted the arc to NURBS. Then I go to a side view and rotate the curve or line. by using the 3d rotate tool. However, by doing this, it alters the plan view dimension. The end points are no longer where they belong in plan view. Can the sweep command be used for this. Can it sweep a point into a helical path? If so, what is used to create that "point?" Thank you in advance for your help.
