  1. Not sure if you are designing a road, but look at HighRoad it has a total new pricing structure - http://createng.com.au/.
  2. I have installed VW2008 Fundamentals, Landmark, Renderworks. When attempting to save any workspace I get the following message "The following Plug-ins are not in the Plug-ins folder: Bulb Flat"? Reinstalled 2 times & all other structual shapes are in the plug-in folder, any suggestions
  3. Take a look at DoubleTake, http://echoone.com/doubletake/, amazing program that I use all the time with photos. Only ?16.95.
  4. Thanks Robert Just waiting to hear back from Teri Young, the Canadian distributor, that the VW2008 DVD's have arrived.
  5. Hi Katie The bug was submitted by Robert Anderson on 1/16/07 10:59 PM - "I have entered this as a bug, indicating a specific failure of our offset tool. B056014 -On 1/16/07 10:59 PM". Was it been resolved in 2008?, still a problem in 12.5.2.
  6. Petri I received the following email on March 20, 2007 after using the "Contact us" button "Mr. Robertson, Yes, Azimuth can do that. However, Azimuth doesn't have any datum corrections such as northings and eastings. It simply uses the specified ellipsoid. The UTM projection of files is accurate and you can designate lat / long grid lines to be plotted but not the metric grid. Nad83 would have to be entered as a Custom ellipsoid, and if necessary I can supply those settings to you as well as for any other ellipsoids. The latest update of VectorWorks 12.5 has made it necessary for all plug-ins to be recoded and recompiled. Right now, the only version of Azimuth that is compatible with VW12.5 is the Intel Mac version so Azimuth for PowerPC Macs and PCs must run VW12. Also, because of coding updates, I'm considering suspending sales of Azimuth until I'm satisfied with the results I'm getting. If you are interested in purchasing, please let me know beforehand so I can let you know of Azimuth's status. If you have further questions, please let me know. Thank you, Richard Richard Furno Azimuth rrfurno@comcast.net 301 622-5042 866 223-6793 Fax"
  7. Compusam, I have been using Vectorworks (MiniCad) since 1990 to design narrow, winding circulinear roads, driveways & trails & all designs are closed polylines with arc vertexes. Maybe 2% of 10,000 or more polylines created had problems in attempting to close them. I have been reporting my problems on this Board & to tech support for more than 10 years. My drawings use UTM coordinates (Northings with 10 digits & Easting of 9 digits), therefore they are long way from an origin of 0,0. I have been able to work around the problem by cutting the problem polylines, then pasting them in a new file close to 0,0 origin, where they can be correctly closed using the Reshape tool, copy, then paste the corrected polyline back to its actual location. I use the 2D reshape tool only not the fillet tools. I would appreciate if you would elaborate on what you consider "creating accurate geometries" for driveways.
  8. Just my two cents worth, but I have used every version of Vectorworks/MiniCad since 1991 & have never had a corrupted file. Were the symbols imported from a dxf/dwg file?
  9. Jan15 I use classes to identify objects, for example in the layer Utility-Water System class "Utility-Water-Main" is the Extrude Along Path object representing the underground water main & class "Utility-Water-Appliance" is used for objects on the surface, such as water metres, water valves, water vaults, etc. All of the class objects are correctly sized symbols. The layer "Roadway Surface" has class objects such as pavement new & existing, curbs, gutters & sidewalks.
  10. Petri glad to see that Finland's representative has regained access to this discussion group. For my work, road design, layers are essential to separate 3-D features at the same scale, for example: layers for underground utilities such as storm drains, sewers, water & layers for surface items such as pavement, sidewalks, landscaping, buildings, etc.
  11. Katie As shown in the my attached file "62-HPGCAs-built.jpg" the parking area is a closed polyline, the parking tool was only used to represent the paint lines. The parking area has variable slopes to the catchbasins as shown by the stake objects. What I would like to know is what you were referring to with "Pads for a parking lot ... split slope for water flow". Thanks
  12. Thanks Katie The reason I was hoping to use the actual 2D object (parking area pavement) is it closes to all the other adjoining features ie curbs, sidewalks & gravel shoulders. The as-built survey data is only point data, therefore, connecting the points in 2D will not duplicate the actual object. As shown in the jpg file the parking area is a very complex closed polyline & it was not possible (actully impossible) to pickup every vertex control point. I am attempting to create a 3D as-built plan that shows all features (roads, parking areas, curbs, sidewalks, landscaping & all underground utilities as dimensionally correct 3D extruded objects. This will allow me to show that all underground utilities have the correct minimum clearances from each other.
  13. Another way is create the new object, cut, delete underlying objects, then paste in place. I use compose to create very complex road objects (pavement, sidewalks, curbs, etc by offsetting the road centre-line, but I always have to check the new polylines in ensure that radii is correct for the arcs in the polyline.
  14. For some reason the image (525 KB jpg) attached to the above reply doesn't show up. Just discovered that file size is limited to 400 KB, not 1MB as per Katie's instructions of 05/08/07. Attached file "HPGC As-built.jpg Thanks
  15. Hi Katie Unable to provide a file at this time, but would like to know how to convert a closed polyline (with lines & arcs) to a pad with split drainage slope determined by Stake Objects. I can not figure out how to convert the polyline shown in the attached image "HPGC As-built.jpg" to a pad? Thanks
  16. It would also help If all users would add information to their signature regarding computer type, operating system & version of VectorWorks. Maybe Nemetschek could add boxes for this to Profile of the Personal Information.
  17. My computer runs 24/7, but I have to restart the computer couple times a day as VectorWorks is decreasing the amount of system memory available & is not regained when I quit VectorWorks. The bigger the files (>10 MB), especially those with large aerial photos as background, eventully reduce my free system memory below 200 MB. I have never checked to see if memory is regained during the night.
  18. Is anyone using the VectorWorks plug-in Azimuth 5.0 ( azimuthmapper.com )? It includes UTM & Transverse Mercator projections & can export shapefiles with VectorWorks 12.

    Plant Database

Petri I had always hoped it was my expertise that provided "liveable roads for all travellers" not the software.

    Plant Database

In regard to the VW Landmark module, it meets my requirements as a highway consultant (except for some problems with polylines) & in fact is the only software available on the Mac for my work. I do use the plant tools & database for pretty roadside pictures.
  21. Time to launch just VW 8 seconds.
  22. I just checked my largest current VW file, 35.2 mb with image file (385 mb aerial photo imported in VW as a JPEG) & it takes 11 sec to open.
  23. Petri For a drafting challenged (I wiil blame it on advancing age not mental) road designer the new Drawing Border Tool & custom title block are great especially since the title block size is easily scalable in the viewport. For me they are simple, fast & I like the appearance.
  24. The Drawing Border was placed using the "Drawing Border Tool" in a sheet layer & the "Edit Title Block" has the option of a "General" tab or "Tolerence" tab.
  25. I use the Drawing Border PIO with a custom title block. When Edit Title Block is selected, the Drawing Title under the General tab allows lines of text separated with a carriage return return. I only use 2 because that is all of the space available in my custom title block.
