  1. I really don’t understood the complaints that Vectorworks isn’t compatible with the latest OS right out of the gate. I think Jim has explained it well every year that they never know how Vectorworks will perform until Apple releases the public release of thei OS.

I for one would never install the latest OS on my work dependant machine until I knew all the kinks were worked out with ALL applications I depend on to do my daily professional work.

Demanding Vectorworks make their in beta application work with an in beta OS seems ridiculous. I’d rather Vectorworks work in the current OS and be able to do my job.

Patience, the OS will become compatible with Vectorworks.

I foresee no major improvements in 2019 so the question arises again. However we have renewed VSS for another year but more out of loyalty and with the hope there will be a significant improvement in speed and performance as a preference over add ons. Also as a VSS subscriber more exclusive tutorials and training and advice for free. Currently you can get all this training and advice on the web for free without VSS and get the licence every 3 years at a competitive price. So what is the advantage?

Rather than the web training should be local in the UK rather than just in London and be more than a few tutorials.

@michael john williams Are you using 2015 as per your signature, or are you currently running 2018?  As there have been significant improvements since 2015.  Also, if you have been watching the teaser tuesday info by JimW? You will see that they are indeed working on performance within 2019.

  3. I have had to make many work arounds to get these types of doors into my BIM models.  These doors inevitably change in size and configuration during design and costing that it becomes a bit of a challenge to change on the fly when it needs to be.

The doors are very desirable in many large custom homes.

  4. I am finding on more and more projects, that contractors and subs wish that details would show where they originate.  The back referencing would be a very beneficial option for both the people working on the file and the people building the project.  The more information you can provide to the team, the more efficient the project will go.

gmm18:  To clarify my statement about InteriorCAD 2014, it was the last versions that was fully functional.  Not from a CNC production standpoint, but from a visualization standpoint.  I must preface this with saying I am using version 2016.  I can't comment on 2017.

There has been a lot of functionality stripped out from 2104.  To name a few:

    - no stile and rail doors (for the US market this would be a huge deal, for me in Canada not so much)

    - extremely limited kick options

    - limited scribes

    - division tool is clunky and not stable

    - the entire plug-in is not very stable

    - no drawer boxes (only drawer fronts)

    - for me, the program doesn't work unless I'm using metric measurements (again, not a big deal here in Canada, and this maybe something specific to my set-up).

The videos you mention are fantastic.  They look great and I hope they are a sign of things to come.  But I have seen these videos for a few years, but real world results are not the same.

I think they are on the right track, and I continue to follow the progress.  But they started in a new direction after 2014 called "production realism" (I think that's what they're calling it).  It has been now 3 versions (2015, 2016, 2017) and reports are that it's not quite ready yet.

I can't wait until they prove me wrong....I will be the first to put my money down.  I do cabinet drawing/production every day.

I really appreciate reading your experience over the last few versions of Interiorcad.  I am a new user and only have experience with 2017.  I have been working with clients that need shaker doors on their cabinets, so I have to do a work around to achieve that.

    More in this space…

Astropad have just released their new product – Astropad Studio. This is a $65 per year subscription (iOS app store fees were never going to pay for pro requirements).

Have you given Astropad a try on Vectorworks yet?  I'm curious if anyones has found any use on it yet.
