Most of model is locked and I can unlock it!

I've been working on this large 3D model for a while and all of a sudden, 95% of it appears in grey and I can select any of it. I went through the backups and it looks like it happened when I imported a large Sketchup model into my model but I'm not sure why an import would lock most of my model. Any idea what I could have done to lock objects on multiple layers.

Check the Organization Dialog Box (or Navigation Palette) and see if your layer or classes are set to Grey. Or if you Layer or Class Options are set to Grey Others.

Change your layer options to Show/Snap/Modify others if you want to edit objects on other layers. 

your class setting should always be Show/Snap/Modify others
