Overlapping Text Issue

LuisYDA

Question

Hey Everyone,

Having issues with text as one of our team members seems to have his text overlap every time he opens up the file. Once he does so and closes out, we all seem to have the issue pop up on our side as well. Any ideas why this would be happening? I've checked the object info and they are all set to screen. In order to fix the issue I have to go in and select all the text and reset it to screen plane, even though it already is.

Ive attached an image below. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Are these text objects or callout objects?

If you select the misbehaving text and look in the OIP, what does the plane list have any plane listed twice?

If those are text objects, does editing the text switch the active view from a 2D to 3D?

If you have a file that has it in this crazy state, I'd love to see it.

One possibility would be Font Substitution. Check in VW Preferences and see if the fonts on his machine are mapped to something different.

Best to make sure that everyone has exactly the same fonts, especially if you are cross platform. This might mean you need to purchase the fonts you use instead of accepting the ones that come installed on the computer.

Hi Michael, these are callout objects. I've checked the OIP and there are no duplicated planes on the list.

Thanks!

Interesting, I'll look into that. Something I've noticed as well is that it's only a callout that has a fill. When I remove the fill we don't seem to have the issue of overlapping.

Also, I'm looking at my Font Mapping List and noticing that the office standard font in questions is not on the list. Anything I can do to add the text into the list?

You don't want there to be Mapping for your standard fonts.

If both machines have Ariel, then no mapping is required. Mapping is only necessary when you send something using Font 123 which the recipient does not have. So they "Map" that to Font XYZ that they do have.  But since the fonts are not identical you may end up with some spacing issues and things may look a little different.

What happens if the person who has this problem creates some callouts in a new blank file and send it to you. Do you see the problem when you open the file?

I once shared a file back and forth with someone who had a corrupted Ariel font.  It caused a lot of problems that kept coming back every time we swapped files.

I've been seeing a bug that I reported recently where a file that started life in 2021 will have some screen plane objects become lodged in a 3D plane or a layer plane.   Editing the text or the object will switch the drawing to a different view.  If you have file that is in the misbehaving state, I'd love to see it.

@michaelk @Pat Stanford Thanks for your help Michael and Pat. I've tried a number of solutions but none of them were working. I've come to the conclusion that it's a bug where the text is lodged in 3D. I figured out a workaround where I select all the text, set it to screen, then save the project file as a new file. From there everyone opens up a new working file and the issue has since gone away.

Cheers
