Importing skp files into VW Landmark

Hi,

I'm drawing a landscape model and section and would like to populate with people figures. Importing them (3D figures) from SketchUp doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions, using Skp or other, greatly appreciated.

Are you getting an error message? Or what specifically isn't working?

 

One thing to check is that the SketchUp file version is at least one or two versions older than the Vectorworks version you're using. Currently VW2022 can only import SKP 2020 or older (I'm not sure why it can't import 2021 - in years past I thought it was always one version older)...

 

If you're downloading models from the 3D Warehouse, I recommend just downloading the oldest filetype available.

Thanks. I'm attempting to upload 2019 SKP files in VW 2021. I've tried 2D as well, I may be missing a step.

OK, it looks like I've brought in 2D figures, will see how they work in the model.

Trying different approaches. I can import the SKP figures. I go to edit my Viewport and place the figures in the model, but when I exit the Viewport Edit they disappear. Any suggestions?

Check your class visibility for the Viewport. The SketchUp import would've brought in any classes (aka Layers/Tags in SketchUp) from the original file, and those Classes are probably off by default in your existing Viewports.

 

In particular a class called "Layer0" is commonly found in SketchUp imports.

I often choose to select the Layer0 class in my Navigation Palette, right click, choose Delete, and then reassign everything to the None class (or one of your choosing). But some folks like to keep the Layer0 class as an indicator that the geo came from SketchUp.

I never imort directly into my project file.  I create a new VW document, import the SKP (or DWG, etc), remove unwanted Classes etc, and only then copy & paste it into my project file.  

 

I'm starting to do this with items from the VW Resource Library as well to minimize the proliferation of Classes/Textures/Hatches that I don't want.
