KIT KOLLMEYER
I'm wondering if anyone knows how to create panel breaks in a particular component of a roof slab. This describes what I'm hoping for: https://www.loom.com/share/933b75daf42a423bbfd0cd29dcf1b1c4 We've been doing a lot of mass timber projects, and we're trying hard to maximize BIM to show panel layouts rather than draw lines in viewports on top of the model. Popular Post Jeff Prince
@KIT KOLLMEYER It would be nice if Vectorworks had a tool to do this to roof objects. However, you can accomplish this by using slabs instead of roofs to define you roof. Then, use Subtract 3D Objects from Slab. Nice thing, if you need to change the subtraction later, they are stored in the object's modifiers. Attached example (in 2020 format), hope it helps. slabs as roofs with subtraction.vwx 5 Quote Link to comment
KIT KOLLMEYER
@jeff prince Thank you! this is exactly the top of work around I was looking for. I haven't tried a slab as a roof before. I'm not seeing how to specify the roof pitch, and I get an error when I try to simply rotate the slab to make a pitch. Am I missing something? Thanks, Kit 1 Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
@KIT KOLLMEYER you need to use the Slab Drainage tool to apply a slope to a Slab. Add drains to two corners, connect them together, then in edit mode drag the inner blue control handles for each drain up to the opposite corners so you have a valley along each upward sloping edge of the slab. Edit these valleys to define the slope angle. But be aware that the modifiers won't rotate with the slab so either apply the slope first then subtract the 3D objects afterwards or edit the modifiers + rotate the 3D objects you subtracted as a separate operation 3 Quote Link to comment
KIT KOLLMEYER
@Tom W. Thank you for the explanation, and @jeff prince thank you for the link. Honestly, the complexity of forcing the slab tool to create a sloped roof just for the workaround of creating panel breaks doesn't seem like an efficient use of time. I hope Vectorworks will add more functionality to roof slabs soon. If the software is able to create recesses in a slab I don't see why it can't do it in a roof slab. 1 Quote Link to comment
