EXTRUSION PROBLEM

Hi everyone,

 

I just started using VECTORWORKS, but I'm having issues with the basics... I'm trying do create another rectangle in the surface of a solid (cube), but i can't select only one surface... he just selects the role object... What am I doing wrong? hahahaha I'm so confused

You can only draw 2d objects on the current active plane which is usually the layer or screen planes by default. To draw on a surface in 3D space you need to make the plane the surface is on the “working plane”. 

In the “3D” toolset palette there is a working planes tool which lets you seLect a surface to become the working plane. 
Altrnativle you can use the “automatic” method. Select the rectangle tool. With the tool selected go to the working planes drop down ( should be in top middle of your screen) and select “automatic”.( This option is only available when a 2d drawing tool like rectangle or line is selected)Hover over the surface you want to draw on until it turns red then start drawing your rectangle. After drawing the rectangle the rectangle will stay red and if you want to you can select the red fill and push /pull the rectangle to create another extrusion from it. When you are finished the working plane will revert to the default layer or screen plane setting.
