mike m oz
Eddie You could draw two objects and use Clip Surface. Base shape and circle 'cutter'. OR Fillet, decompose, rotate fillet arc left two times and then recompose. [ 09-29-2005, 01:55 PM: Message edited by: mike m oz ] Quote Link to comment
APE Design Ctr
I am more interested in modifying a solid, not 2D objects. Thanks Mike. Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
extrude along path tool? either to make the object from the start or to use as a 3d solid subtraction. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Eddie I create the 2D shape and then use the Extrude Along Path menu item for things like cornices, skirtings, gutters and fascias etc. Avoid solid subtractions if you can. Once you have the extrude done you can modify where it is located in relation to the path by editing the profile and relocating the 2D profile shape relative to the origin. If the extrusion is the wrong way round you just need to flip the 2D shape. Editing the path is a little more difficult - I usually do it by drawing a new 2D path and then cut and paste it into the 'path' part. After locating it correctly relative to the original path you need to Convert it to a Nurb and then delete the first Nurb path. APE Design Ctr
I use the fillet or chamfer tool frequently to round off edges of - say a piece of wood-. It would be nice to have a tool that does a cove-edge. Does anyone know such an animal? Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Convex curve >Revolve with Rail works for most shapes. Especially corners. Quote Link to comment

mike m oz
3D Modelling Tutorial No. 1 shows how to form a groove using an ellipse and extrude along path + solid subtraction. http://www.nemetschek.net/3Dpowerpack/tutorials.html The tutorial title is "Extracting Curves from Solids" and it explains the basics of creating curves from a solid. An English Language QT movie of the tutorial can be downloaded from the German distibutor's website http://www.computerworks.de/ Follow the Links VectorWorks / Allgemeines zu VectorWorks / 3D Powerpack symbol / QuickTime Filme / Beispiel 1 (10 MB ) - Badewanne Quote Link to comment
