Snap to grid & align to grid gone mad!

I'm going mad trying to keep objects snapped to the VW grid. It seems as though if I move an object while holding the shift key down, then that constrains the movement like I want it to, but it also defeats the snap to grid. Also, if I use the align to grid command at different zoom levels, it seems as though objects snap to the grid at different positions. What's the best way to deal with these issues?

Increase the snap radius in the VW preferences and see if that fixes it for you. I think the default is 5, try upping it to 20 or more.

the snap to grid should work, have you turned the snap to grid constraint on? (it's the first button on the constraints palette).

next what setting do you have for:

a. the snap grid ( i use 100mm)

b. the reference grid (i use 1000)

Increasing the snap radius helps, but I also needed to turn off the "Angle Snaps - 30, 60" setting in the Constrain Angle settings. I'll work with it a bit now and see how it goes. Thanks for the help.

OK. I've tried everything. Sorry to say, but this part of VW is junk. It does not work for me. I'm giving up trying to align anything to the grid.

OK. I fixed the problem the easy way. I reverted to VW 11! Now that's how the grid is supposed to work. I can't believe how much time I wasted using version 11.5 and trying to get and keep objects aligned to the grid.
