Marquee Selection No longer working

This may be completely daft.... somewhere, somehow I must have changed a setting I can no longer find.... or hit a shortcut I didin't know was a thing.  

 

I can no long select things with marquees... I can SHIFT - Select Objects just fine, but when I do a rectangle, lasso, or polygonal marquee nothing is selecting.  Classes are set to Show/Modify all and the objects are all on the layer I am working with, but no multi-selection.

If you open a new blank file and draw 3 circles non overlapping, does marquee work on them? If not, do you see "3 Objects" selected in the object info palette, but no highlighting in the drawing area?

So in a new drawing marquees selections work perfectly.  

Went a step further, changed Layers to Show/Snap Modify All I can marquee around all other objects and they pickup just fine... execpt things on the layer I am working on.... really wierd.

Any object, or are these symbols or lighting devices? Sometimes the object requires a larger selection area than its highlight would indicate. If you like, post or send me the file and I can take a look.

The current layer and the other layer that is problematic are all Light Objects.

 

When I add new Lights to this layer I cannot Marquee select those either.

 

Also adding lights to the other layers, Lights will not marquee slect but every other object will....

Are they Spot light types? Are you marquee-ing around both the source and control handle for the direction or just around the source point? 

If you add a few Point type lights, do they marquee select as expected?

I am literally marqueeing around the whole layer of lights.

 

The only difference I can tell is that the lights I am working with in plot have also had the 'edit vision data' tool used on them. But this has never happened when I have used this tool.

 

Point sources select normally in a marquee.

Ahh these are Lighting Devices, not light objects set to spot.



When I zoomed out far enough to see them, I was able to use marquee selection. Disabling the Legend also fixed it. The Standard legend having some components so far off the lighting device is causing the issue in this file. They could be moved back manually or switched to another legend.

Holy Crap!!!  How the hell did THAT happen?   Anyhow, Thank you!  I re-edited the legend and it threw an error at me then auto corrected itself... now everything is working... Thanks for you help and time!
